BOSTON--John Gaffney was named to the new post of COO of Havas’ Media Planning Group USA. Gaffney was previously president of Havas’ Arnold MPG, Boston. Denny’s Chooses Contenders CHICAGO--Denny’s last week named finalists for its general-market, African-American and Hispanic acounts. General-market finalists are Bernstein-Rein, Kansas City, Mo., Doner in Southfield, Mich., Mullen in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Publicis in Mid America, Dallas. Denny’s generalmarket incumbent was WestWayne in Tampa, Fla. African- American finalists are GlobalHue, Southfield, Mich., and E. Morris Communications, Chicago. Hispanic finalists are GlobalHue’s San Antonio office, Lopez Negrete, Houston, and cruz/kraveta: Ideas, Culver City, Calif. Incumbents are African-American shop Chisholm-Mingo Group, New York, and Hispanic shop Publicis Sanchez Levitan, Miami. The Rojek Cutcher Group is assisting with the review. Ogilvy Taps Burrier for L.A. Post, Moves Motorola LOS ANGELES--Ogilvy & Mather last week named Dan Burrier as chief creative officer in Culver City, Calif., and announced the transition of creative on the $150 million global Motorola acount out West. The move marks an attempt to stabilize the Culver City shop following the departure of co-presidents Angus Fraser and Joe McDonagh, who was also executive creative director. Burrier, 43, was executive group CD at Ogilvy’s New York office. He will share leadership duties with co-president Rick Roth. Newswire Roundup MasterCard tapped Omnicom’s Integer Group as its promotional agency following a review of undisclosed shops. The Dallas-based agency replaces the Ryan Partnership in Westport, Conn. The Purchase, N.Y., client is still looking for an aditional interactive shop to ad to its roster. Interpublic Group’s Mcann-Erickson in New York handles the advertising on the estimated $200 million acount. ... Pacific Sunwear handed its $10 million acount to Doner after a review. Doner’s Newport Beach, Calif., office will handle most of the acount, with the Southfield, Mich., headquarters contributing as needed. Bates USA West was the incumbent. ... Richard Rapp and Joseph Alesi have formed Altamira Integrated Communications in Westport, Conn. Rapp was president of Genova & Partners, Greenwich, Conn.; Alesi had been creative director of promotions firm Upshot, New York, until a few months ago. Halo Industries last Friday agreed to sell Upshot to Los Angeles-based Equity Marketing, pending bankruptcy-court approval. ... Deloitte Consulting has cut to two in the review for its estimated $50 million acount: Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., and dB, New York and San Francisco.
