Tova Andrea Wang, election reform expert at The Century Foundation, predicts that given the number of likely close elections and the failure of many jurisdictions to improve their election systems since 2000, the country may again be challenged by problems with our electoral process this election day. "As we saw in Florida’s recent primary elections, the country still has a long way to go when it comes to fixing its election system," Ms. Wang stated. "Moreover, like the 2000 presidential election, many of the races are predicted to be close ones this year. People should not forget that we might never have known the extent of the flaws in our electoral process had the margin of victory in the Florida presidential election not been so narrow." She says of the federal election bill signed into law by President Bush last week, "it will eventually be a tremendous help, but it won’t change anything for the elections taking place Tuesday." Wang is available to discuss election process and reform issues on the federal and state/local level.
