Weekly: BVI sponsors Sand Sculpting Australia -- Give some folks a lump of sand and it’s amazing what they can create. A beach at Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, outside Melbourne, has been turned into a magic kingdom of sand castles courtesy of Buena Vista Intl. The distrib’s Oz office is offering kid-friendly screenings of its pics and activities during the event monikered Sand Sculpting Australia Feb. 11-March 8. Organizers say they’re using more than 2,000 tons of sand in the fourth edition in Rye; A similar promo will run for the first time March 5-21 as part of Melbourne’s Moomba Waterfest carnival.
