Variety - Glamorpuss Tao Hong, excellent as the restaurateur in "Life Show," is miscast as Liu Li, a tomboyish taekwondo artist who trains for the national team alongside childhood pal Yang Hui (Wu Di). Due to chronic overtraining, Yang can't feel pain, and she's hospitalized after an international match vs. Liu. Wracked by guilt, Liu quits the sport, becomes a famous model, and returns to grab a gold at Sydney (where the sport made its Olympic debut). Seemingly made to hook into the current taekwondo craze in China -- as well as the Athens Olympics -- pic is handsomely shot, off-handedly structured and drenched in proto-Sapphic emotion. Tao struts around and spits her dialogue, in a hopeless attempt to look butch.
