Fishing tips
Ok so I’ve been here a long time and haven’t posted an egg in a long time, also I have never seen anything on fishing. Basically in this egg there will be a basic guide on a few rigs and how to tie the best knots etc.
I live in Victoria, Australia and mainly fish in Port Phillip Bay, and the barwon heads/ocean grove area. So the rigs will mainly be on anything you get in the Vic region.

**********************************
Simple but effective knot, this knot is what I use every time I go fishing, it will never come undone if done properly-

Get what ever you want to tie to your line and loop it through once, like so.

Now loop the end of the line around the line that goes to your rod about 6 times. (heheh I said rod :D )

Now bring the line back and pull it through the little opening at the beginning of the knot.

Pull tight and it should look like this.

**********************************

Whiting:

Target fish:

Legal size: minimum length is 30cm

Where to find: In sandy holes, around weed beds and around reefs.

Bait: Pippis and shrimp are what I have had the greatest success with.

Rig: A running rig (sinker is in a ball shape to allow movement in the water). Or an anchored rig both work fine for whiting. I cant explain the rig very well so just look at the pictures.

**********************************

Flathead:

Target fish:

Legal size: minimum length is 30cm

Where to find: Are found in all tidal rivers, estuaries and coastal beaches. Always handle with care as they have spines on either side of their head.

Bait: same as whiting, bigger flathead will also go for a soft lure (made from rubber etc).
Rig: Same as the Whiting rig, maybe add a slightly larger hook, and defiantly have a ball sinker, as the flathead are more attracted to moving bait.

**********************************

The best times to fish are sunrise and sunset, more fish are out feeding at these times. But if you can not get up or stay out for long, and you have to fish during the day try to fish when there is an incoming tide.

If you have been fishing one spot for some time and have had no luck, try moving along a little to a different spot and try there.

Also if you can take some burley (old bits or bait, cut offs from last nights dinner etc.) or you can also buy bags of the stuff from K-mart and any other fishing store. Burley helps hell of a lot as it lures the fish into the spot where you’re fishing.

BE PATIENT! A fish won’t take your bait as soon as u cast into the water! Unless you cast into the perfect spot and the fish is hungry. If you’re an impatient person, take an iPod or something to entertain you while you fish. Once you start getting into fishing more you will enjoy the peacefulness of the ocean, it also gives you a lot of time to think things over.

More rigs to come shortly.
Thanks for reading my fishing egg,
comments appreciated.

cool,I’m only giving you 5*’s because if your going fishing you should know how to tie a hook and rig a high-low.
but some people might not.
