Visual Guide to Lock Picking!

In this I will show you visually how to pick locks. This tutorial is very basic, and is not to be used anywhere except for recreational purposes. Here we go:

I am an experienced lock picker. I have been picking for a while and my favorite set is the SouthernOrdinance MPXS-20.

This basic set covers most of the essential tools for all locks. The most needed pieces are the Tension Tools.

Notice the L-shaped part on the end. This tool is the primary tool used to actually open the lock. This will be inserted into the bottom of the lock, but we will discuss that later on.

Now I will show you a picture of tools called Rakes. Notice the shapes on the end of these tools. They are spiked, or curved. Hence the name ’Rake’. These tools are used to rake the pins of the lock, to get more pins up at a time.

Now I will show you the tools called Feeler Picks. These tools are used for more precise picking. They are used to lift just one or two pins in the back of the lock.

Now I will show you my favorite combination of Tension Tool and pick.

Great! Now we can get started on the real picking! This is the lock I will be picking:

For this lock I will be using this combination of Tension Tool and pick.

Now, first things first. Look into the keyhole on the lock. Find the little gold pieces of metal on the top of the lock. These are called the Pins. When all of these are in the correct place, the lock will open.

Now, insert the Tension Tool of choice into the bottom of the lock like so:

Once you have that down, insert the pick (Rake or Feeler, your choice) above the tension tool. Like this:

Now, apply slight pressure on the Tension Tool, trying to turn it the way that the key would turn to unlock it. Most lockpickers like to use a method of holding the Tension tool and the lock in the same hand.

Now, while applying pressure on the Tension Tool, jiggle the actual pick to move the pins into the correct place.

While applying pressure, the lock should open within about 1 min. As you get more and more experienced, your open time should go down. A lock like this I can bypass in about 1.5 seconds. When the lock is open, it should look something like this:

Thank you very much for reading this long entry. Please rate and comment, and I always like having friends.

Images don’t work. Preview your eggs before you post them.

I’m at a loss of what to do, can’t see any of the pics so this is completely useless.

Should always preview an egg before posting it to make sure it works.

Holding my vote for now.
