It was the 24th of July so of course we have to ride. The three of us started at the trail head just off of Guardsman road. Since it was the 24th of July there were another group of guys heading out at the same time as us. We reached the first major climb. Known to most as PUKE HILL. But before we decided to accend this monster. We found a jump to have some fun with. We all hit the jump a few times. Even the guys from the other group joined in. One guy from the other group took off and launched. His miscalculation is now a huge bloody scrape across his side. But hey it sure looked cool. We then started the climb. Everything is well until the last 100 yards are so. It’s as if the World has begun to tilt backwards. Our lungs are burning and our legs are turning to rubber. But finaly we make it to the top. The view is spectacular. From Solitude and Brighton over to Park City and the Canyons. Here the trial flattens out. We fly past some radio towers and finaly hit the single track. Fast and tight corners. The adrenaline is now pumping. The next scenic spot it Desolation. On this day the weather was kind of weird. On the ridge you could see down to Lake Desolation and also back into Big Cottonwood. However looking out into the Park City side was not possible. All you could see was a huge white wall of clouds. It was almost an erie feeling. This is the most technical part of the trial. It is very steep and is all jagged rock. The trail falls into the huge rut and if it’s not hit just right you will find yourself kissing your front rim. We all make several attempts at it but are never able to succesfully navigate this skinny jagged rut. We move on, climbing out of the Desoltation area. All is going well until are one of our buddies yells he has a snake bit. Not a real snake but a pinch flat. We stop knowing this shouldn’t really take that long to fix. The hole gets patched and he starts pumping the tube full of air. As he pulls the pump off of the stem the air like a tiny explosion blows the valve into the sky never to be seen again. We try just using the stem cap, but the air still makes it’s way out. Now standing there perplexed on what to do. We got very lucky when another group of riders rode by and happend to have a spare tube. Just a reminder, Help all of your fellow riders. It makes it that much more enjoyable. Finaly we got the tire back on and got going. From this point on it’s all down hill. Untill you hit Wasatch boulavard at the mouth of Mill Creek Canyon. Tight sharp and bumpy. 30mph on single track is a great feeling. Splashing through the creeks. Mud covering every inch of you body. Bugs in your teeth. Uh no another flat. But this one goes on with out a hich. However one of us has seem to have left his seat bag open and lost a tool. He makes a treck back up the trail not having any idea were it is. I being the sceptic figured he would never find it. So I decided to wait by one of the bridges that spans the creek. I see another couple of riders coming down the trial. The fist comes across the bridge with no problem. However the second guy some how loses control of his bike and his front rim slides off of the bridge to his left. SLAM goes his head right into the wood of the bridge. I ran to see if he was okay. He seemed to be fine. Just in a bit of a haze. Besides his broken specs and a scratched face he was okay. Finaly my buddies return. Holy cow they found his lost tool. Amazing. We finaly get to the top parking lot of Mill Creek Canyon. Here the need for speed is overwhelming. Of course there are cars coming up at you so you have to be sure and stay in your lane. Which becomes quite difficult at times when you are flying at 40mph. Bugs slamming into your head like it’s a windshield. We now start coming up on some cars. The speed limit is only 25. With a quick glance at my computer I see that we are going 35. What do we do? We pass the cars and keep going like bats outa hell. We finaly fly past the toll booth and out of Mill Creek Canyon. What a great day of riding that was. Heck if it wasn’t for the odd day no bikes rule we would be up there tomorrow.
