The following egg is designed to help out those who have problems using the tags when posting on RottenEggs. This is to save people always asking how to post images, create links, and make things bold etc. Please do not rate this down just because you already know how to use them, this will still be helpful for those who do not.
Note:
Wherever I show how to use a tag, I will put a * in it to break it up, so that RottenEggs doesn’t think I am actually trying to use a tag. When you yourself use these tags, just leave out the *.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Making text bold
To make text bold, you type:
[*b]YOUR TEXT HERE[/b*]
This will give you:
YOUR TEXT HERE
Underlining words
To underline words, you type:
[u*]YOUR TEXT HERE[/u*]
This will give you:
YOUR TEXT HERE
Making words in italics
To put words into italics, you type:
[i*]YOUR TEXT HERE[/i*]
This will give you:
YOUR TEXT HERE
Changing the font size
To make the font bigger or smaller, you type:
[*size=?]YOUR TEXT HERE[/size*]
Replacing the ? with a number from 1 to 5. 1 is smallest, 5 is the largest.
This will give you:
YOUR TEXT HERE (size=1) YOUR TEXT HERE (size = 5)
Changing the font color
To change the color of text, you type:
[*color=???]YOUR TEXT HERE[/color*]
Replacing the ??? with one of the following colors:
darkred, red, orange, brown, yellow, green, olive, cyan, blue, darkblue, indigo, violet, white, and black.
Using “red”, you will get this:
YOUR TEXT HERE
Posting a quote
To quote something someone has said, you type:
[*quote]COPY AND PASTE THE QUOTE HERE[/quote*]
This will give:
Quote: COPY AND PASTE THE QUOTE HERE
Creating a link
To link to an URL, you type either:
[*url]http://www.rotteneggs.com[/url*]
OR
[*url=http://www.rotteneggs.com]CLICK HERE[/url*]
This will give:
http://www.rotteneggs.com
OR
You can also use the second method to disguise a link. Do this by replacing the “CLICK HERE” text with a false URL.
For example:
[*url=http://www.rotteneggs.com]http://www.this-is-the-false-url.com[/url*]
This will give:
http://www.this-is-the-false-url.com
This makes it look like the link takes you to the false URL, but it actually takes you to Rotteneggs.
Posting an Image
To post an image, you first have to get the URL of the image, which must already be on the internet. (You can’t post an image from your hard drive.) The URL of the image should be something like:
http://www.rotteneggs.com/logo.gif
To post your chosen image, you type:
[*img]URL OF YOUR IMAGE HERE[/img*]
Done with the URL of the RottenEggs logo, this gives:
Combining Tags
Once you have got to grips with the tags, you can start doing more sophisticated things with them, by combining them. It is actually very easy to do, and the only thing you have to worry about is making sure you close all the tags by putting the [/TAG*] at the end. (Obviously replacing TAG with the tag you used)
Making an image link to a different URL
This uses a combination of the url tag and the img tag.
To do it, you type:
[*url=http://www.rotteneggs.com][*img] http://www.rotteneggs.com/r3/images/logo.gif[/img*][/url*]
This will give:
Which takes you to the RottenEggs homepage when you click on it. (You can abviously replace the URLS to make it link to a different place and show a different image.
Creating impressive text effects
You can use a combination of many different text effect tags here, just think about what would look good. Here are some examples:
[*size=4][*color=red]H[/color*][*color=blue]E[/color*][*color=green]L[/color*][*color=black]L[/color*][*color=grey]O[/color*][/size*]
This gives:
HELLO
[*b][*i][*color=red][*size=4]SIMPLE YET EFFECTIVE[/size*][/color*][/i*][/b*]
This gives:
SIMPLE YET EFFECTIVE
Just mess around with different tags till you figure out how to use them all properly. If you want to try them out before creating a post, you can always just click “preview” instead of “post message” to see what they look like. This option is not available in the quick reply box in the forums.
Instead of remembering all of these tags, it is possible to just click on the tag button at the top of the proper reply box, and it will insert the tag for you, but many people use the “quick reply” box in the forums, as it is quicker. If you know all of these tags, you can just type them in the quick reply box, thus saving time.
Please rate this egg if you have found it useful, or think it may be useful to other people.
Thankyou! |

Australian_Pyro, you are right, you can put them onto profiles or eggs from your hard drive, but when you do that they don’t go into the body of the egg. They only appear at the top of it. To insert an image into the body of an egg or a forum post, it has to allready be on the internet. |

 | Jun 15, 2005 10:11 am - ^^^ WTF you retard, HTML doesn’t work on RottenEggs.
And in case you are being even more retarded than I thought, this isn’t HTML, it is a special code for forums.
And just so you know, HTML isn’t a "code", it’s a programming language. |
