Any one of you people having an hardware engineer for a dad probably already know that if wrapping plain copper wire around a long nail creates a magnet. Usually the positive end is the nailing end and the negative end the hammering end. The nail becomes magnetic by charging electric energy to it, in other words, connecting a powerful enough battery to the two ends of the copper wire.

Now if you do the same with something thinner, by sticking the magnetic end into the lock it may push pins inside inward like a key does. I have only tried this on locks with matching keys that has small holes in them. The key unlocks the door by pushing the end pin inside the lock inwards and twisting the lock to open the door. If you do this with a metal piece shaped like a popsicle stick only thinner it should work on that kind of locks.

I find that the longer and tighter you wrap your piece of metal with copper wire the more magnetic energy it creates. I suggest you use a nail for the pick. Heat it up with fire until it’s red and hammer it as flat as possible leaving only the hammering part (the round part on the top) untouched.

Again I’ve only tried this with certain locks since there is a lot of locks in my house.

a AA battery would be nice, i also found out that by wrapping the copperline couple of times extra on the metal piece the metal would be more magnatic...at least that’s what my dad says...
a better way is to connect a lot of AA batteries with copper would also give the piece more megnatic charge.
