The following depends on where you work, how the register takes orders, and what happens on teh register when you Void Transaction, or Void Ticket.

For my case, I work at a Gas Station. On the normal occasion, the computer doesn’t print a reciept, and no one asks for a reciept. If someone wants a reciept, they ask for it. When I press "Void Ticket", the order is cancelled, and prints a reciept for that, oddly enough - but, most customers couldn’t give a shit, nor probably understand what is going on behind the counter to begin with. If your register is set up practically the same way, you’re in luck. Otherwise, you’ll have to scope out another way of pulling it off, and then this would practically be a waste of your time - my apologies for that.

In anycase, when the customer brings their stuff that they wish to purchase, and hands you CASH, you’ll have to do a quick mental math and figure out the change - hit VOID TICKET, and then NO SALE, and viola, the drawer is open, and so is the cash. If they hand you exact change, I usually just fold it and put it in the empty slot in the drawer; otherwise, just count the money out and hand it to them. If you have to count change out, keep the money they gave you and put it in the drawer, and keep the opposite of what they gave you.

Err ...
The total is 15.80
They hand you a 20.00
Give them back 4.20, and have the 15.00 folded in an empty slot in the drawer.

Now also, at intervals of our own mind, we have to make a SAFE DROP, where we put excess of 100.00 in our drawer into an envelope. Since the camera points to the register, I use the envelope to block the view of the drawer, while I put the excess into the envelope, and crush the 15.00 into a ball in my fist out-of-view.

If this helps you, then good luck with it. Through this, your drawer will not come up short on cash - but the store will eventually come up short on merchandise. So, don’t do this too often, otherwise your boss may begin to wonder why you’re only making the store a couple hundred bucks a shift while your pockets have a couple of thousand. A decent 20-100 bucks a night will work out nicely - along with that paycheck. Remember, do it only a FEW TIMES a night, if you do indeed do it.

But also, my register prints out a Journal, so it shows the "Void Ticket" "No Sale" right next to eachother, so if your work does the same, don’t give the bosses any reason to start checking your journals.

For the people that’ve wasted their time with this, sorry.

And remember, if your work/register acts different, scope it out and plan out how you’re able to pull it off, if at all. There’s always a way to fuck your work over.

While I understand that alot of stores have cameras watching, you’ll just have to learn their angles, and how to obscure the camera’s vision without looking too obvious (a folder or something covering you pulling the money, for instance). You’ll just have to plan it out and use your imagination.
