Thoughts on thermite
I work in machine shops so I can get powered aluminum for $1.50 a pound or free usually if I’m nice. I have about 50 pounds of in 5 gallon pails but before this I used to have to make it. Most of the times you can ask machine shops for aluminum and they will give it to you especially if you sweep it off the floor or something like that. But you have to clean it in that case and the easiest way to do that is to run a magnet through it to get out any iron and then pour gasoline over it and ignite you don’t have to cover it with gas but you’ll want to get grease and oil off of it.
But another way to get it is a power hacksaw

You can either use it as a hacksaw or put a file on it instead of a hacksaw blade. That is what I did and it would make around a pound of finely powdered aluminum in about a hour. Use a fine file and check it every now and then to make sure the file doesn’t get clogged up.
This is a useful tool for other things like making pipe bombs and what not, where you need to cut thick metal quickly.
My favorite way to get rust is to take a Pyrex container take 1 piece of steel wool and loosen it up by pulling it apart. Then mist it with bleach. Misty it every 5-10 minutes and soon it will be about ½ rust at this point add more steel wool in a day you can get 5 to 10 pounds of rust.
You can also get rust off of old steel/iron things with a metal brush and a container if you’re up for a job
Then to light it I always use a sparkler. That right the crappiest fireworks in the work are really great to ignite thermite.
I use thermite usually to make parts for tools. It produces pure iron and if you add graphite to the thermite you can make steel if you’re careful. I use it to mold parts for vintage machinery. The largest pour I’ve ever done was to make a 100 pounds lathe bed. So imagine 200 pounds of thermite going off at once. It’s an awesome site.
If you have any questions for me or would like to buy thermite or the parts for it let me know
