I’ve seen a lot of blowgun ideas out there so im just putting in mine.
All you need is 3 to 5 feet of 1/2 inch copper pipe (You can get this from any hardware store).
Take your pipe and chose which end you want to blow out of. Then wrap that with a little bit of tape becuase I don’t think its healthy to put copper in your mouth.
Thats your blowgun. You may think that this is overly simple but sometimes the more simple ones are the best. I have killed a rabbit, a frog, a couple squirrels, and some crows with this very blowgun and darts
These are the darts I use when hunting.
All you need is... -A piece of paper
-A coat hanger or the little bamboo skewers that you get in super markets.
-Super glue
To make the darts... 1. Start off by cutting 6 inch pieces from the coat hanger. When I cut them off I like to cut one side slanted and one side flat so that the dart is already sharp. If you are using the bamboo skewers just make the darts with the size that they already are and they are already sharp.
2. Take the piece of paper and make a cone by getting ready to fold the piece of paper as if you were going to make the first fold in a paper airplane(the one where you fold the two top corners into the middle) but instead of folding it there take one of the corners and push it under the other. Now tape it so the cone doesn’t unfold.
3. Now you take the sharp part of the dart and try to push it through the bottom of the cone. My advice is to cut of a tiny bit of the bottom of the cone to make a hole so you dont tear the cone. Then put some glue where the cone meets the coat hanger/skewer.
I’m not good at making diagrams with slashes and dashes but this is what it should look like.
Key:
1. \’s, /’s, -’s,and _’s are part of the cone
2. |’s are the coat hanger/ skewer
3. .’s are to make the diagram work. Without them the thing collapsed so ignore them.
1. Simply put the dart, pointy end first, into your mouth piece and push it in just far enough so that the cone is completely in the tube.
2. Then, with your mouth off the tube (so as not to inhale the dart), take a deep breathe.
3. Put the mouth piece of your tube completely in your mouth, not in front of it.
4. Form a seal by griping the tube with your fist and bring the fist to your lips.
5. And blow into the tube as hard as you can.
Aug 01, 2005 12:51 pm - see the problem is i can never get the paper darts to work right. too much too little varying thickness etc. and its just really painstaking to get the needle straight. Anyway this was good egg so ill say 4
Aug 01, 2005 1:26 pm - Thanks. I make my own blowguns becuase I find that they work better. I can’t blow darts with a bought gun the same as I can with my homemade gun. Plus its still cheaper. It only cost me about $5 total with darts and pipe to make.
Aug 01, 2005 3:07 pm - I do almost the exact same thing only I can never get shishkabob sticks to work. They are not heavy enough at the business end or something. I also ran out of wire hangers so i use nails. Paper cones ad nails are some of the easiest and fastest blowdarts to make. IMO they are far superior to damn shoelace and needle darts that go in bic pens.
