Ok, this is a basic trick I picked up a few years ago on getting some good discounts on merchandise at various stores. It relies on the ol’ standby of price/bargain stickers. So far I’ve pulled this at quite a few stores. It’s not that risky, as I’ve mentioned, I’ve done it on several occassions and never had so much as an eye batted at me.

First, you locate what type of stickers the store uses. ex. A lot of smaller shops, I’ve noticed, use a simple white or orange tag with the black print on top. K-Mart, on the other hand, opts for a special white one for regular products and yellow for clearance. The fye chain uses large red sticker tab tags (part of them hangs over the top of the product.)

Anyway, the basics to this is to simply switch the stickers to lower prices. Having a friend along as a watchout is beneficial, but not necessary. Simply peel off and switch the two tags, placing them back on flat. You can have fun with this, just avoid cameras.

Examples I’ve Done
I got my friend a $28 dollar lego set at K-Mart that was clearanced to $14, before I switched with a $3 sticker off another lego set. The woman at the counter never batted an eye as my friend paid for it and we left, simply ringing it up for the sticker shown. I’ve also switched $9.99 videos to $.99 at fye, using their mega discount bin, DVD’s from $14.99 to 4.99, etc. with nothing said.

Advanced Discounting
Ok, if you’ve mastered the basics of this trick (which I’m sure some of you have before reading this egg) then the second step is one I’ve began using in the past year or so. This is to locate a sticker sheet (just the shiny sided paper that stickers come on) to place your collection of discount stickers on from products you or others have purchased. I prefer one out of the .50 vending machine since it slides simply in a wallet or pocket. You can also use bumperstickers, which can be sent to you free (google), political party stickers, etc. You can also cut and fold these easily to carry where you want. As you can imagine, simply place the stickers on this sheet, peel off the old one and switch it with the one on the sheet or toss it if you don’t want it.

That’s basically it. You can add your own personal touches when you feel like it (for instance on the Legos, I crushed up the side of the package some to make it look damaged... knowing I wouldn’t damage the product.)

On the chance that they would question the price, just say, "well if it’s not that price, I don’t want it" and leave. If you’re carrying around the sticker sheet, be a bit more careful, as helpful as it is you are carrying evidence. Oh, and of course, watch out for cameras/security.

Stand, did you try pushing the sticker price on the woman? That’s been my plan if they ever rang it up for the regular price.

The K-Mart around here, at least for clearance merchandise, doesn’t check into their computers discounted prices and the cashiers simply ring up the prices. fye is really easy to do as well, since the sale stickers are so huge and also bright red.
