Background Ok, here’s a prank a friend taught me a few years ago. We had pulled it off at our school on dozens of occassions as well as store computers and friend’s.
What This Prank Does This prank is quite simple, but can become very frustrating for you average computer user. It simply switches the "y" and "z" keys so that every "y" enters a "z" and ever "z" enters a "y".
For experts, it might seem easily fixable and possibly common knowledge, but when my friend did this our freshmen year in our school’s library to show me it, noone could figure out. Not the librarian, computer teachers, or even the resident senior computer nerd knew what was wrong with the computer. Finally, they reformatted and did a fresh install to fix it. The entire prank lasted well over half the school year.
Instructions: Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME Enter the control panel and open up the keyboard option. There should be a tab marked Language (or on 2000 Input Locales) Now choose the Germany layout. Apply this option and then remove the English layout (removing the option removes the button from the task manager as it’s the only option left.
Windows XP Enter the control panel and open up Regional and Language Options. From there, select the tab marked Language. Click the "Details" button and you will notice the English set up. From there, click the "Add" button and scroll to Germany and select ok. Now that Germany is added and is the default setting, delete the English option.
Notes This should not involve any installation from the Windows CD or even a restart on the computer.
As for Mac users, I know this is easily done on Macintoshes, as my friend originally showed me this on one of the older models (and OSes). However, I’m not exactly sure the means to go about it. I could’ve googled it, but chose not to in case of errors.
