Okay I’m really sick of people posting eggs like...
"wat u do is u crush up the sparklas and u put them in a film canista. then u light it. it looks so cool!!!!"
Anyway I’m going to go into a little depth of sparkler bombs and some additional things you can do to improve them.
Firstly, for people who don’t like making "Big bombs" and go for small "film canister" sparkler bombs. (Btw I wouldn’t clasify sparklers as bombs >.>) Instead of just crushing up a few and lighting a fuse, try filling it to the top. Then with the small white lid cut a small hole for the "fuse". Once this is done put the lid on the canister filled with sparklers. Now, get a silicon gun and silicon the small gap where you put the fuse in. Then silicon the lid and the canister together. Tap this all up with duct tape. Light the fuse and enjoy it.
Now some people may think that the sparkler won’t burn down, Let me tell you this: Sparklers can burn with no oxygen. (It can’t burn in water though).
So theres your small sparkler bomb.
Now let me tell you about a bomb me and my friend made. I’ll post instructions about this as well.
Things Needed..
-Sparklers (Lots of them)
-Silicon Gun.
-Duct Tape.
-A Very Big Tin. (The Width of the large Milo Tins but about 3 inches higher)
-Soda Bulbs (About 6-12)
-Gun Cotton (Gun powder can be used)
-Brains.
-Chicken Wire.
Instructions..
1) Wrap you chicken wire around your Tin. Then use your duct tape to hold it in place.
2) Fill about 1/4 of the Tin with crushed up sparklers.
3) Get your Soda bulbs and wrap them around with duct tape but don’t tape the top of the package.
4) Pack your Gun Cotton into your Soda Bulb package and tape it all up. (Three layers should do fine)
5)Put your package into you crushed up sparklers so it rests there nicely.
6) Cut the wires off alot of sparklers and pack them in tight in your can. (Make sure they go into the crushed up sparkler mix.
7) Drill a small hole in the lid so you can just fit your fuse in. (Use a sparkler as a fuse)
NOTE: Make sure at this point you have everything you want in the bomb.
8) Silicon around the hole where your fuse is. Then silicon the lid and the container together tightly.
9) Wait for the silicon to dry.
10) Put a little duct tape around the lid securing it to the container.
11) Find yourself somewhere a place to light it. If your dumb enough to do it in your backyard so be it. Find a spot where you can hide behind. Dirt mounds, Hills, walls anything then can put you behind you and it. Light the fuse, and get back.
Result..
The fuse burns down and the sparklers catch fire. The sparks try to fly out the top but theres not enough room for it. (These sparks fly like 13m in the air) So your bomb expands. The crushed up sparklers catch light and burn through your duct tape and start heating the Soda Bulbs. When the Soda Bulbs go off it gives your bomb the oomff (Is that a word?) it needs to explode, Sending sparks everywhere.
This bomb is amongst one of team Bomb Bandits great bombs. It may sound like just another "sparkler bomb that flares" but it works like I said it does. You get the sound, (Soda Bulbs) you get the light (Sparks) you get the spectacular package that it is. Also great to video camera. Make sure you do this at night and with your mates.
Where to get what you need.
(I live in Australia and sorry if I point you in the wrong direction with where to get stuff in other countries)
-Duct Tape - Any shop basicly.
-Silicon gun - Any Hardwear shop, Some supermarkets.
-Soda Bulbs - I get mine from IGA for about $6.30 for 12.
-Gun Cotton - Inside Shotgun Shells. (Got mine from a friend)
-Sparklers - Supermarkets.
Dec 03, 2005 11:49 pm - Thanks for Voting and commenting. Keep them coming. I don’t know too much about fuses. But for most of my bombs a sparkler works just fine.
Dec 05, 2005 11:01 am - Be careful with buying visco, though. A lot of visco is ’water resistant’ but doesn’t have the nitrocellulose lacquer that it requires to be waterproof. A good way to make poor quality visco more waterproof is to drop several ping pong balls (nitrocellulose) into about 50mL of acetone (check your local hardware store in the painting solvents section). You should be able to produce a thick goup, if its too watery, add more pp-balls! Then take a paintbrush and apply this stuff to your fuse and allow it to dry. The nitrocellulose may affect the burn rate slightly, but it will not be drastic. Also, this will allow your fuse to actually burn before the nitrocellulose, causing it to be waterproof.
J n 02, 2006 3:31 am - BNE and logys. first of all, BNE. the stuff on the sparklers is NOT FLASH POWDER. if it was flash powder anyone trying to light a sparkler would probably go blind. the "stuff" on the sparklers is a mix of magnesium and another chemical.
Logys. what you say is wrong. i have found that the larger the pieces of sparkler the better. so finely-ground sparkler is not the answer.

You are all wrong...
The stuff in sparklers actually varies.. depending on the brand!
Each sparklers use its own oxidiser, not all use the same as some use Pottasium Nitrate, and than other would use pottasium perchlorate
so the ingredients varie but i can tell you
it definetly DOESNT have FLASHPOWDER, if it had flash powder, it would explode.
As for BNE, Some contain barium nitrate
but definetly not saw dust.
Cercatore, Its not as simple as its Magnesium and another chemical,
Which magnesium? Magnesium Sulphate? be more in detail and i doubt sparklers contain magnesium
What they do contain is:
Oxidiser(kn03,Po chlorate, pot perchlorate)
Dextrin
luminium Powder(Sparks, NOT SAW DUST)
Iron Oxide(Not sure what for, but if you run a magnet over it you will pick it up)
