I searched the directory and couldn’t find this.
I didn’t c/p this, either!
This egg may distress you in some way, such as if you have been a victim of hi-jacking, or you know someone who may have been on one of the planes on 9/11. If such things distress you, I advise you do not read further. Tyrant.
What if you are on a plane, and it is hi-jacked?!
What are you going to do? Are you going to try and take out the jackers?
Maybe try and talk them out of it?
Try to escape?
NO! This guide will help you cope with the during and after effects of being hi-jacked. If possible, I’d reccomend that you print of the text of this and take it with you on all flights. That way you will not have to remember all the things contained here, which will be difficult under stress and pressured circumstances.
Intro Hijacking is not a common occurence, but it does happen. In the 1980s, about 20 aircraft a year were being hijacked around the world. In all, over 4000 passengers experienced the ordeal each year.
The airports which are most vulnerable are those with poor security, often in third world countries. Jackers can more easily smuggle packages such as guns, or bombs. They may wait until take off, or shoot their way on board. At the start of any hi-jack, the passengers, jackers and crew will be in a highly charged, emotional and/or excitable state, which can lead to violence. Against the jackers or other passengers.
What To Do During a Hi-jack
:Keep yourself hidden (do not attract attention to yourself). Melt into the background. Otherwise, you may be singled out and put others at risk, including yourself.
:Hide or dispose of any possessions - such as military identification papers, which, if found, may arouse the jacker’s hostility.
:As time passes, the situation will improve; experience has shown that passengers and hijackers gradually build up a rapport (trusting relationship). You may be asked to help with meals, clearing up and attending to the needs of others.
:Accept the more relaxed mood, but DO NOT ARGUE, especially with the captors religious or political views!
:The hijack may last for days, and you may have to fly through a wearisome series of airports as the jackers seek political sanctuary. Be alert for evidence of tension among fellow passengers and crew, and reassure them where possible. Make allowances, too, for the symptoms of stress among crew and the jackers.
:If you are confined in a ground aircraft, problems of heating and cooling may arise. Especially if the craft has no land power. Deserts, for example, are hot by day but cold by night. Under these conditions, it may be wise asking the jackers if you can remove the emergency windows for extra ventilation by day, but to replace them for warmth at night.
:At night, if the jackers agree, give out blankets and get everyone bedded down if possible.
:Be prepared for sanitation problems. The toilet arrangement on most aircraft are self contained, chemical recirculation sytems. That means they will quickly fill, the smell will be offensive, and they can only be emptied by a valve on the outside of the aircraft. Water for washing may be in short supply, or may not be available at all.
:In the prolonged crisis of a hijacking, people may do unpredictable and dangerous things. Some will become depressed and withdrawn. Others will hyper, nervous and unpredictable. Children, however, may present less problems than you’d think. They can also be a useful contact with your captors.
:Try to keep your mind occupied with other things than the jacking. Think about making an egg, or an argument you had with a member recently, or remind yourself of a funny forum topic, or don’t be so sad as to having to cheer yourself up by think about RE all the time ;-)
Crosswords, card games and books will all help. A vacant mind, like many of you will have as always, can lead to panic and rash actions.
:Try to keep fit. Oppurtunities for excercise may be limited, but in many planes you get those laminated cards which have diagrams of small excercises you can do, such as spinning your feet, stretching your legs, or bending your knees. Read them through, and ask the jackers if it would be possible if everyone could do it, at best, one at a time. Cat napping is beneficial, too. Deprived of sleep, you may not think straight.
:Take fluid whenever possible. It is more important than food; a healthy person can go without food for over a month or so, but in high temperatures body fluid is lost much quicker. Whilst on the ground, without moving or having exercise of much sorts, the normal person will need about 2 litres of water a day.
:As the deadline the captors put forward creeps closer, the tension will rise. Try to calm any passengers showing signs of stress, or hysteria.
:If the craft is attacked by rescuing forces, get down on the floor and stay there. Try to make yourself as small as possible, roll into a ball between seats. There may be flashes of light, explosions and gunfire, mixed with sounds of terror. Do not stand up until given the all clear!
:When this happens, leave the craft as quickly as possible, as it may have been wired with explosions or fuel may be leaking from punctured tanks.
:Outside the craft, the rescuing forces will meet your every needs. The press may be asking for your interviews, too, but the airline service and rescue services can protect your from this if you wish.
After the Hi-Jack Prepare to feel very stressed and emotional after the accident. You will probably feel withdrawn, and not want much contact, if any at all, with other people. You will be drained physically and mentally, and possibly mentally scarred [(Yup. Tyrant got an A in psychology in a little mock test at school :) It was just a mock though, and a small test, but it related to hijackings. That’s where I got this info from].
:Be prepared for feelings of guilt, too. Some people may be disappointed about their performance during the jacking. Some may feel they lacked brvery during it, panicked easily, or behaved irrationally under the stress. Others, however, may discover newfound strength, and character.
:Because it isn’t usually the fault of the aiport that the jacking occured, you cannot normally claim compensation, and it may be impractical to hold them responsible. It is, however, possible to buy compensation against hijacking and often, the cover is included in holiday insurance packages.
Think I should take this in as extra credit? If it stays over 3 stars in a week I will :-)
Well, I hope it was helpful. You could take my advice and print the text off and take it with you on flights, but don’t do it if it makes you too uneasy. If, for example, you take it on all flights, but then one day you forget it, you might fret. So be careful. Anyhoo, I hope you liked the egg. From me again, goodnight, and fly safe!
Feb 18, 2006 4:21 pm - hmmm...what if the jackers are flying the plane in to a building...you mean to say we just sit there and think about something else?
Feb 18, 2006 4:29 pm - When I say exit the craft I mean after it has been liberated! *rolls eyes* Plus, if what happens on 9/11 repeats itself, which isn’t often, then this won’t help too much. It will a little, but not too much.
Feb 18, 2006 4:32 pm - this is an awesome egg and is probably of more importance than any other in the directory

this is called "stockholm syndrome" after a bank robbery in stockholm that lasted for many days and the hostages and captors developed a friendship
5 and faves
Feb 18, 2006 4:32 pm - o so this is just for one of those "good" hi-jacks..but anyways, if something like 9/11 does happen, you should fight and make sure they dont harm any more people. youll be heros of flight xxx.
Feb 18, 2006 4:34 pm - When an aircraft is hi-jacked, it is often on the ground. This makes the situation safer. If it is in the air, the only possibility of the plane being intentionally crashed is if the jackers have suicidal tendencies. This is most often not the case. 9/10 jackings dont result in the craft being destroyed.
Feb 18, 2006 6:37 pm - Mhmm, your guide doesn’t really say how to hault a hijacking though. All it says is: "HANG OUT IN THE BACK AND WAIT FOR YOUR IMINANT DOOM". Ha. If I was in a mother fucking plane that we knew was going to be going into a building, I would do something about it. Shit. I would be running up there and shove a pen up their throats. If they have a bomb? Who gives a shit? The plane will blow up sooner or later, why not make it go off above a field instead of a building where hundreds more could be killed. Look, I’m not saying this is a bad egg because it is good and reminds people to stay calm during a hijacking, but I just want to get across that you should actually do something. You could be saving the lives of 1000’s more, like those dudes on flight (93?) that made the plane go down into a field. That’s my 2 cents.
Feb 18, 2006 8:58 pm - sorry but this is BULL SHIT! i think mabey YOU might sit there on your ass and do jack shit, but IF im ever anywhere thats geting hijacked/robed/ect ect im not siting there and acepting the fact that mr. so and so is gonna wave a gun around and scream in god only knows what language(wich you wouldnt understand)id fight till the death, if i die and it turs out that everyone gets out safe then o-well for me,
and no im not saying im gonna CHARGE THE HIJACKER WITH A PEN i would wate for the right moment because if hes hijacking he has to keep his eye on several people wich means eventualy i will be in his blind spot OR behind him (this is when i would attack) as for his buddies...that would all play its self out...
Feb 19, 2006 1:21 am - In many aspect, ur guide works on the pre-9/11 days because nowadays, getting a weapon on board requires connections with the respective airliner (i’m not telling u how to do it here.) so chances 4 a hi-jacking senario is not really that big (unless i started 1, haha).
final word, usefull stuff. 5*****
Feb 19, 2006 3:16 am - Okay, those who said that that this guide is either bull or will not work, or don’t agree with it...
This is psychology. The mind of a hi jacker can be unpredictable. They may do unpredictable things.
Here. Put yourself into the mind of a hijacker.
[i]You’v just got on the plane. It takes off. Your instructions are clear. You must take over the plane with your 2 comrades, and hold everyone hostage. Only kill to get your point across or to discard of any trouble. You go into the cabin and tie up the pilot, leaving the co-pilot untied to go into the very back of the plane. You order the captain to radio to the tower your list of demands. If all goes smoothly, you will get your demands met and fly back in a helicopter. If it doesn’t, you will be killed, you were told, by the "organiser" himself. You are under a lot of pressure. The odds are against you. You have a gun, and a plane full of frightened people. Your mind begins racing, with pictures of death and humiliation flashing before your eyes. You begin to think you should drop out of the mission. You begin to think you should drop out...altogether. No. You shake your head clear, and begin to focus. Except you can’t. There is a woman screaming in the fourth row. You walk up to her and demand she shut up. When she doesn’t, he orders her husband to tell her to be quiet. When she still carries on screaming, you shoot her. Boom. Head shot. Blood flies everywhere. Your mind begins racing again. You weren’t supposed to kill anyone. Images of the "organiser" and his angry face flash before your eyes. You start to perspire. You want out. You have no idea what to do. Nearly the whole craft erupts in screams as they realise what has happened. One by one, you kill each passenger, crew member, comrades, and ultimately, yourself. Nobody co-operated, and that’s why things ended up the way they did. The End...
There. You have to think the way others think.
~Tyrant~
PS.
I should write a book!

Sorry, but you’re an idiot. If you were to come out of that alive, it would be a miracle.

You mean they’d just turn on you and shoot you? Yeah. That’s what’ll happen.
F b 19, 2006 10:04 am - This is good and very detailed info. But on september 11th the white house was spared because the passengers had the courage to rush the hijakers. The plain crashed anyway but less was lost.
Feb 20, 2006 12:30 am - Mostt terrorists nowadays are muslim and in their religion when you die you go to paradise. This would not be humiliating for them their family just became rich for the cost of you going to paradise and meeting 72 virginS. I see what you meen and this is a very good egg im just saying that the conditions might be a little different.
