Ok Today i was a design and technoligy class And we where making a fruit bowl completly out of 300mm rods.. any how Before we could solder the rods to gever to form a grid (or a grill) We had to use "BINDING" wire to make sure our grid stayed in one place while we un-wrapped a corner of binding wire and soldered it to-gether... Now this Binding wire Is pretty sharp stuff.... We where made to use gloves just in case (Not many people did,,, Talk about health and safety in uni eh) any how going back to Training as a Roal marine cadet helper... We used Wire similar to this as a saw... Now this is no where at least as good But yeah its foldable and and easy to conceal so i thought i,d put it here
[hr]
What you need:
[1] A 18inch (46cm) Long Peice of Binding wire,
[2] 2 bits of wood that are exactly the same (Try to find 2 bits that arnt gonna give you splinter and ar comortable to hold)
[3] A pair of pliers (any pliers just for tightning the wire)
[hr]
Now you may say "Why not use cheese wire?" or "Why not use piano strings"
Cheese wire cant handle the friction created by sawing wood ect... And can easily disform...
Piano strings i agree with.. its just gettin them... All you need is a single one and i havnt found a shop that sells just single piano strings...
And second Binding wire is very cheap and found in most DIY/Hardware shops! I shall continue
So with all the eqipment ready you should have this:-
(Sorry for the de-gree in which my webcam is so shit)
Now i am using 2 pencils just because its easy.. i do recomend carving or whatever your own 2 peices of thats upto you!
Ok now take your wire and get 1 end... Now ony use about 1/2 an inch on the end to wrap around ur wood or pencil or whatever (If its a thick bit You could drill a hole through the middle and feed it through and secure it the other end by a screw or what ever)
But if u dont want to... use upto 1 - 2 inchs but be for-warned that the less wire you have the harder it is to actualy cut stuff !! now wrap it round your wood and twist it at the ends ot its like:-
As you can see the its is still a bit a loose and can easily slip/slide off ur peice of wood this is where the pliers come in! Now all you do is wrap them a bit more with the pliers so not to hurt your fingers... And also to ensure a tighter fit ! BUT DONT wind it up too much since this will breaky the wire and it will just fall apart when u go to use it
Now once all done you should have summin like this:-
Now your all done.. this may seem pretty pointless but hey... Its better than a normal saw if you want to cut not so thick bits of wood.... I shall test this and see if how much heat it can take untill it breaks!
Mar 09, 2006 9:08 am - I forgot to mention you dont have to use wood.... U can use meteal rings (I.E keyrings) To make it look a bit more authentic... I just used pencils since thats all i had...

Mar 15, 2006 9:57 am - It is pretty strong... It is used to hold bits of metal together while you solder or weld the other bits... But yeah im not sure exactly how stron it is... Its easily cut swith a pair of sharp scissors or a knife.. but most things are...
