Spud Gun Tips
Most of these tips are for combustion spud guns. Although some may be applied to pneumatics. Remember that spud gunning is a dangerous recreation and should be treated with respect, but you should have as much fun as possible. YOUR SPUDGUN IS AS STRONG AS ITS WEAKEST PART!!!(got that line from http://www.spudfiles.com )
Tips
Propane is the best fuel. You can dispense it through a torch, just don’t ignite it.
In cold temperatures, to protect the PVC from becoming brittle, you can ignite the torch and swiftly run it all over the cannon to warm it up.
Pretty handy.
Wrapping the barrel in a large amount of paper towels, then wrapping it in electrical/duct tape can both silence the gun and keep it warm, it also protects you paintjob, just slip off the paper towels when you want to view your work of art.
Does your blast chamber get potato pieces in it? Well if it does, you can put some paper towel wadding in before the spud. I haven’t notice any power loss.
All that grime that builds up in the camber can be a pain to clean, use of direct fuel such as propane or butane or most other ‘anes instead of aerosol sprays that leave useless chemicals behind, can reduce grime build up.
To clean the camber, get a small wad of paper towel and pinch it tightly in a pair of pliers
and scrub the chamber down with warm soapy water and dry it with a dry paper towel ball (obviously).
Some good ammunition is veggies, wet toilet paper balls, spent co2 cartridges, air soft bb’s, steel/lead shot, marbles, Lego people, snow, and pretty much anything found in my eggs I wrote on alternate paintball ammo. http://www.rotteneggs.com/r3/show/se/162953.html and

i wanna know how to build a spud gun. there has been a lot of eggs on how to build them but i never really understood it properly. if you can could you tell me how to build the simplest one?
Mar 22, 2006 10:51 am - i should make an egg on potato cannons, they are massive spud guns, about 1.5 meters in length and the diameter of a spud (you can also make them as wide as bowling balls)
anyway 5* because that is one mean gun
Mar 22, 2006 1:02 pm - i’ve made a potato cannon before, 1.5 inch diameter barrel, 6 foot barrel. i make smaller ones though cause i live where the houses are about 75 feet apart.
Mar 22, 2006 7:18 pm - mach taters I’ve built myself a nice spud gun, it’s got a 4" diameter chamber and a 2" barrel. Try using butane in your gun-only a tiny amount (fraction of a second squirt) though or else you’ll run into firing issues. Best ammo ever -> smaller diameter PVC pipe, about 3.5" long with one side taped shut with lots of tape, and tape again around the outside of the pipe to make a good seal. It’ll shoot out of your barrel really fast, it’ll go clean through a door with a perfectly round entrance and a gaping hole where it exits.

Nov 12, 2006 8:29 pm - with the comment i said before it was because i couldnt get the sparker to work. but i realised it was because of the spray i was using wasnt sensitive enough and the chamber was too small. ive now made 2 full sized combustion guns and a combustion powered paintball gun.
