Well now here is Bethlehem Steel in ********, NY. (Im not going to give the town it is in, but it is near by) . It’s a labyrinth of pipes, chemicals, ladders, stairs, buildings, scrap, seagulls and asbestos. Basically, your walking right into a big cancer tumor.
This is one of the coolest places I have checked out, it was so big, we didnt explore the entire thing. I had an amazing time climbing ladders and getting ontop of very tall buildings. Ahhh, the sweet smell of cancer causing chemicals.
I know little about this location, it was built some time in the 1950’s and it was last put to use in 2001 as a coke oven. Sorry, I know very little about the place. But it is an amazing location.
Here is how the day started:
-YellowSnow begins his drive to New York -My mom drops me off at the meeting location for the other UE’rs
-We eat food.
-Exploration
The egg!
-As soon as we exit the alien crafts I immediately climb a tower (Ask Snow) I snapped this picture.
-A big fuckin’ crane. I climbed that bitch too.
-BFC
-The cranes arm.
-A view down the ladder I climed up. Snow decided to be a smartass and use the stairs. What a sukka. I beleive that is Snows stuff.
-Yes, both are the same. I edited the second one. Its a view from the crane. You can see an abandoned barge in the picture.
-The cranes cables.
-Just to put it into perspective on how big this place is.
-On my run through on the pictures I didnt notice these are the same. A fuck up.
-Sadly, we didnt explore this building. I want to the next time I make it out there.
-A water treatment station. I got to that buildings highest point on the cat walks with-in the building. I was scared shitless but it was cool.
-This picture does what your looking at no justice. It was cooler looking in person. Basically, you can see under the building with its complex of beams and shit. I wouldnt swim in it, it looked mad cool.
-A shitty stair shot from indside of the building.
-The view from atop.
-Some of my fellow explorers.
-I heed warnings well. This terminal was not active but some of the others on the site were.
-One of many buildings.
-Pipes, tanks, pipes, towers, weeds, stairs and chemicals. My playground.
-Another shot of the surrounding area.
-A rain coat with caution tape. looooooooool.
-Heater and dirty sink.
-A light on the catwalk.
-Chemical Vent!
-As some of us were exploring others raided a asbestos removeal crews tool box. Yes, they wore the white suits all day. I got a nifty pair of gloves from the box and "DANGER ASBESTOS" caution tape.
-Extreme Powa’ Station!
-This dude who goes by the name "Pyro" was messing with the coal resin. We found a bottle of gatorade and dropped it in the sludge. No suprise that it didnt sink.
-High Pressure Gas Booster Station. (Where the coal sludge was)
-Lights OUT!
-I took it upon myself to spit. This was the locker/shower room. I didnt take a picture of the clothing lockers but a freind of mine did.
-The clothing lockers.
-An emptyer building.
-I shit packing peanuts.
-See that tall tower? I chickened out and didnt climb it. I want to sooooo bad now. This is where the chemical smell started to get bad.
-No caption required.
-Geo tells me this is where they weigh out the coal. They would run the coal up a big ass conveyer and then weigh it out...
-Thought I was joking about that big ass conveyer? Hells no.
-A view from one of the upper windows. See the white dots? Sea-Gulls. Geo told me there are ALOT more then that on some days.
-You heard the man!
-This is the only roof shot I got sadly. I was busy admireing the view and talking. Great fucking view.
-See the building with the stairs? That is the same thing I climed and got to the top of. Loooooong ass climb.
-To the ovens!
-Our traveling band of nomads.
-Just some shots of the area.
-The trains would pull in to this building (Didnt get a shot of the place, when I said this place was BIG I wasnt kidding) and then a big ass machine would litterally tip the train over and dump its load and it would go down this chute.
-This building made noises, it was in use. Nobody to be seen though. Kinda odd, but what ev.
-A door, shall we?
-We shad. At the end it just led us to some stairs which led to a building.
-Some shots of MORE buildings. I dont lie, this place=HUGE
-Accidents can happen in a *flash*
-The avatar for the egg.
-I didnt explore this building, see how big it is? It sat over a garage that once held the fire equipment for the plant. It now olds construction equipment.
-The horn didnt work :-(
-Yes, that light was on. The building was locked.
Sorry for not being so extensive on my exploration. You can spend about 3-4 days in this place. It is one of my favorite places to explore. I have future plans to go back.

No, fuck you. That would get that placed shut down for good so no one can go there. That would also violate the code of urban exploring, even if the code is a bit corny.
Nice egg Clegg. Maybe when I am a 60 year old man and my high school shut down for some odd reason, I’ll make an egg on that.
Jun 09, 2006 5:05 pm - o wow i pass that place at least once every few months i live a city or two away from there..i didn’t know it was shut down...5 stars for sparking my interest of a new place to explore..
Jun 27, 2006 10:33 pm - Pretty Nice place. I have plenty of abandoned place around here, but they are mostly a good half hour or more away. Nobody ever wants to explore with me. 5* nice pics. I would have put on an asbestos respirator.
Aug 01, 2006 3:33 pm - Clegg my friend.. you are a very talented photographer. I think you should take a class and perfect your art. I may be able to draw, but I can’t capture moments in time like you do. 5*’s, a given :)
Oct 22, 2006 2:49 pm - Hey that is mental My team are called W.E.T (Woodland exploration team) Thats cause there is only one cool abandoned place in town and almost everyone has been in there so its not fun its acually a old hospital and is well freaky so we explore the vast woods around
Feb 11, 2007 11:22 pm - OH my god this place is soo cool, im going to do an exploration egg here, in some old mines, first i have to get rid of a 1/4 inch thick steel door or some how open it
