School’s out, and I’m bored. So after I ate a measly lunch of half a poppy seed bagel I headed out to explore an old dam I had seen a few years earlier while walking in the woods.
Luckily you can get to the dam from my house through the woods without crossing any roads, so I rode most of the way on my dirtbike. I was slowed down about half way when I encountered a huge puddle. I walked my dirtbike across but managed to fall once in the mud, on my ass. My wrist’s still a little weak from when I broke it so it took a good 30 seconds to heave the bike off me and stand up. I was covered in smelly swamp mud but I went on anyway.
I was still about half a mile from the new dam when I had to ditch my dirtbike and walk because the woods and brush were getting too thick. I camouflaged my motorcycle with a bunch of leafy branches and continued on my way. Up until that point I had been riding on fairly open trails, but after that I had to follow deer paths. I finally walked out onto a gravel road near the dam.
The new dam complex is located about 300 yards in front of the new dam. The reservoir used to be lower but it rose over the years and they had to build a higher dam. I walked past the new dam and down a crappily paved acces road to the old pumphouse and dam. The pumphouse consists of two small brick buildings next to the old dam, which is only about 8 feet high. The new dam is about 40-50 feet high and much wider. The old dam looks about 100 years old, which would more or less coincide with the industrial period of the town it provided water for.
