This egg starts out with a story:
One summer day I chose to ride my bike to work (Chick-fil-a if you much know) and I came across one of those electric road signs. You know those ones that say things like LEFT LANE CLOSED PLEASE MERGE. Well thats fine and all but when I was driving back to work after a long weekend IT WAS STILL THERE EVEN THOUGH THE WORK WAS DONE. Well that kinda pissed me off... but when I kept on seeing it EVERY DAY I got really mad. So one night I walked down to the sign to see if I could turn it off or something.
So I got to the sign and saw what looked like a control pannel. Assuming it was locked I took a hard tug on the door... It flew open and I fell down into the mud >_<
Inside the door was a key-pad with a couple of buttons on it and a key board. Using an intelligent way of choosing (enie menie mini moe) I pressed a big red button that read STOP.
ENTER PASSWORD flashed up on the screen.
"Oh man" I thought and moved to close the door when I saw a string of letters and numbers (alpha-numerical)
Written on a piece of paper taped to the door.
What the hell, I tried the sequence into the panel and was delighted to see the sign turn off!
On the screen SELECT FUNCTION (or something, I dont remember because I was trembleing with the extreme 1337ness of hacking a sign) flashed.
So I started hitting random buttons on the key pad and eventually I got to a screen where I could type a message.
With this my mind drew a blank so... I just typed "Wenis" and pressed start. In a couple of seconds 20 watts of elbow skin glory flashed up on the screen.
After I saw that I calmly walked home and went to sleep, content with myself.
The sign stayed up for about a week and eventually it was taken down. I havent heard anything about it (nothing in the newspaper or anything) so I assumed they blamed it on some disgruntled worker or something.
[end story\]
SO, assuming that all road workers are retarded enough to write the password to the control pannel on the door you could do LOADS of things. Im shure you can think of better things to write than "Wenis"...
PART 2
This is just something I saw on i-hacked.com (Linkage)
Well since I gave a link to in depth instructions I will only scratch the surface of this.
You know those "Beta brite" signs you see in bars and some other places? Well apparently you can buy a remote control to control the signs. Supposedly these remotes are universal so if you get one (through ebay or actually buying a beta brite sign) you can use it on any other sign!
Just thought I’d throw that in since I was talking about electronic signs.
Jun 23, 2006 12:08 pm - Im shure it wouldnt be very hard to figure it out, I was not really thinking strait and I only had a street light to work by... shoulda brought a flash light
Jun 23, 2006 12:11 pm - that was a comment to camthedew to answer your question, Yeah theres probobly a pretty good chance road workers have written it somewhere because if someone has to do maitence (like changing the message) it would be tough to track down the password
Jun 23, 2006 12:13 pm - Meh, i don’t suppose the password would be taped on every sign, but since you had a low rating, i gave you a five. that, and it was just an interesting read. mud-faller.
Jun 24, 2006 4:53 am - Thats cool that you can do that, but the builder people must be pretty dunb to leave the password on the door, but it doesnt matter cos you can change teh sign. cool, 4*
Jun 24, 2006 9:11 am - Defiler is correct. This egg is coppied. Go to Google and use "ZUG Electronic Road Signs and Me". Since the pictures are the same and no link to www.zug.com ... no stars.
Jun 25, 2006 2:42 pm - 4* Thats pretty cool, but like ppl have already said, i doubt every one would have it, u got lucky...
Now someone should try to get into a Speed Tracking sign, mess it up so itd say like 90 wen ur goin about 50..COPPERS
Sorry bout the long comment :)
Jun 28, 2006 11:19 am - you had to do eenie meenie minie moe to figure out to press the stop button.lol most people probably wouldnt put the password there unless theyre just retardedd
Jun 29, 2006 1:48 pm - i cant tell if it is coppied and pasted or if you took the original and changed it, but this dosnt seem like a home made egg....i could be wrong. So im not gona vote yet..
