[small note, I submitted this egg at first by accident to one of my groups, I didn’t get any egg points for the first post so I’m reposting it. You aren’t giving me twice the amount of egg points so don’t call me greedy.]

Hey people. This egg is about how to maximize your scaring ability by showing you the three main factors of an effective scare. I wrote this whole egg by myself from my personal experience and knowledge. I didn’t copy or paste from anywhere so don’t call me a copy and paster unless you have the URL of a site which has the same exact data. Plus I highly doubt that anyone else has this exact data. d(-_-d) Peace. (except the dictionary definition except that doesn’t count.)

Table of contents:

1: Factor of surprise
a) location
b) stealth
c) speed

2: Factor of shock
a) realism
b) mind games

3:Factor of sound
a) volume
b) the type of sound

Here they are:

Factor #1:

The first factor is surprise. The less a person is expecting you to scare them the scarier it is for them. this factor has 3 parts:

A: The first is location: depending on where you are it will be either scarier or less scary. If you scare a person from in front while just popping out of a place where people come out from they wont be as frightened as.. let’s say: you hang yourself from a ceiling upside down. The stranger the location the scarier it will be.

B: the second factor is stealth: If you give away that you are going to do something whether it’s a clue of your location or some noise which gives the person information on where you are. If they know where you are they will be more wary;

C: and finally speed: if you start building up the scariness it won’t work. Unless you are in a scary environment and they are already paranoid about what might happen. That’s the exception. Another thing. The faster you go the less time they will have to brace themselves. If I would slowly climb out of a closet and walk up and scare you it would be as scary as if I had rushed out as fast as I could have.

Factor #2:

There is also the shock factor a.k.a. how scary you are. People are afraid of things which they can’t understand; this section is about deluding the human mind into making it shocked at what it is seeing. This section also has three factors:

A: The realism of it. The more realistic something is the more our mind will react to it accordingly. For example: what would you be more scared of? One of those fake sheet ghosts or a floating ball of glowing mist that is floating towards you? Most people would (probably) say that the ball of mist would be scarier because there is no logical explanation for it. If you make yourself look like you shouldn’t exist then it will scare the person silly. Here’s another example. I wanted to scare you. I dressed in all black. I had black gloves, a black hoodie, a black neck warmer, black pants, and black shoes and socks. It would look like I would dissapear at night if I was in the dark. Like I was a living shadow. I then wait until you are outside somewhere in the dark. Or I just get into your house when it is very dark. I stay in the darkest parts of the house and play mind games. For example... actually I’m getting ahead of myself. Mind games is the next section. ^_^ heh heh. My bad. So if I look like a living shadow and you happen to spot a glimpse of me you’ll think you are going crazy. Because a living shadow is the stuff which you see in the X-files and shit. Ya, that’s it for this section.

B: Mind games: oh those wonderous mind games. A mind game is basically when you do something ot a person where their own mind starts to play tricks on them; the dictionary definition of mind game is: An act or series of acts of calculated psychological manipulation, especially in order to confuse or intimidate. Often used in the plural. So that’s what a mind game is. A great mind game is when a person thinks they are alone and you do something which suggests of your presence but you don’t reveal it. for example. You are at home (only if if you have tile or hard wood floors.) and you are by yourself when you hear something rolling down the hallway. You open the door and see a marble rolling down the hall. You go from the direction which it came from but there is nothing there. You go back to your room and sit down. Right when you sit down you hear something else roll the the hall. This time it’s 2 marbles. You start to get scared. you barricade yourself in your room. You wait for a while more. You hear knocking on your door and footsteps going down the hall. You will either chicken out and stay in your room or you will go and investigate. As you are going down the stairs you hear nothing. You turn the corner.. and you are face to face to me and I say "boo" You got to admit you would scare yourself shitless. So pretty much anything which suggests that you are there without really revealing your presence is a good way to get someone ripe for the picking (to be scared @_@)

Factor #3:

This is our last section and probably the least known of the three. A person has a comfort zone of sound. Anything below this comfort zone and it won’t be heard or thought to be one’s mind playing tricks on them and anything louder will shock and/or hurt the person experiencing the noise.

A: This part is split into 2 sections the first deals with what happens when a noise is below the comfort zone and the second deals with what happens above it. When trying to scare someone making a little noise isn’t always necessarily a bad thing. If you want to totally catch them off guard then it would be best make as little noise as possible; while if you’re building up suspense then making a small noise or deceptive noise in another area is a good strategy. Example: You are in your room adn everything is quite. Then your alarm goes off at full volume. You go over to check and in that time I quitely rush in and stand right behind you so that when you turn around it seems I popped out of no-where. The second part is when you go above that comfort zone. I’m getting a bit tired so I’ll just go and say the louder the noise the scarier it is. If you have an airhorn go off right near your ear when you least expect it you’ll jump about 3 feet into the air. (unless you’re deaf.)

B: different sounds have different effects on the mind. Sounds which are high pitched usually make goosebumps go across ones skin and have a creepy feeling to them. Low-pitched sounds go great with darkness. Sounds which are out of place make one feel uncomfortable. And noises in the background also lend to tension which makes someone’s experience of being scared all the more intense. Example for this one: You are walking down a wooded path and it is getting dark. You hear some chanting off in the woods to your left. You look but can’t see anything. You then hear a woman’s scream come from that direction. You get a bit freaked out and start walking faster. All of a sudden from the woods to your right you hear bushes breaking. A cloaked figure gets onto the path and starts following you. Almost everyone would start running at this point fearing for their life. Last note: noise helps convey a story. It’s one of the easiest senses to fool so use it whichever way you will.

Conclusion:

I hope you enjoyed this egg and vote what you believe it is worth. It took me a really f’n long time to finish this. Thank you.
