Pocket Knives are definatly the most usful tool you may need for and outdoor sport. They come with every thing you can imagine (forks, lights, tweezers, awls, and screw drivers just to name a few). with proper care and Maintenance your pocket knive will give you very many years of sevice.
This egg will properly instruct you on how to clean and oil your pocket knife so it will preform like it was brand new.
You will need:
1. A Pocket knife (duh)
2. A can of light oil (I prefer wd-40 but it is usually personal preference)
3. A tooth pick
4. A small piece of soft but durable fabric
5. A Wheat stone (not Pictured)
Cleaning your knife:
1. Open each tool and wash the tool and the slot it goes into under warm to hot water (this kills germs and helps with drying)one by one closing each tool after it is washed.
2. Dry knife with soft towel
Important Tips for cleaning: * Try not to have more then one tool open at a time this prevents cut and other injuries
* when drying blades hold towel on top of blade and wipe across (I tried it the other way one and sliced my had good)
* if you use your knife for food I recomend putting it in the dish washer ( to prevent illness)
* DO NOT use a high pressure spray to clean your knife it will force dirt and other particals into the joints which can ruin the joints.
Oiling your knife: 1. take toothpick and wrap fabric around the tip
2. spray small amount of oil on the fabric end of tooth pick and insert fabric end into the kive slots and gently wipe through the slot.
Important Tips: * Make sure all pivot pionts are oiled
* If Im using my knife for a water sport i will usualy very lightly oil all my tools to prevent rust
Sharpning your kinfe 1.hold your whet stone in your non dominant hand and your knife in your dominant one. run the blade over the stone in a small circular motion at a 45 degree angle on both sides ( for a sharper but less durable blade use a smaller angle).
Important Tips: * to check the blade sharpness look at it under light if the sharp end reflects the light sharpen it more if not it is nice and sharp.
* some people oil the stone for a smoother sharpning (depends on personal prefernece)
Try to use common sense when storing your knive store it in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and away from children. Try and clean your knive after it is used often especaly for food!
Laffylou is wrong q tips fall apart with the grease on them and get cotton all clogged in the pivots. All this information is for a reson cutting corners could mess up your knife.

And explain how my knife is "gay" that should be interesting.
Jul 12, 2006 8:16 pm - "Wheat stone" WTF? its called a sharpening stone....
Quote:
run the blade over the stone in a small circular motion at a 45 degree angle on both sides
you need to run the blade across the stone in a straight motion towards you back and forward in a 45 degree angle, for a sharper knife use 10-25 degrees
btw, i heated up my pocket knife’s blade with a lighter and used it to cut through a piece of plastic and after i finished the blade’s edge stayed black and a bit bumpy with pieces of molten plastic. when i normally heat up the blade it doesnt stay black, i can just clean it in a sec, this time i cant. obviously i wont use it again to cut apples but you know how i can clean the plastic off the knife? (i tried burning it off and wash and stuff)
Jul 13, 2006 10:59 am - it can ethir be a sharpining stone or a whet stone and i dont know how you would clean the plastic off maby if you use like an corrosive liquid i dont know
