This is my previous egg, which was made within a year of the fire. I thought for sure they’d take this building down, but someone seems hell-bent on saving it.

To wit: The Victor Scotti building segan its life as a garage / repair facility for large trucks, and had about half a dozen wide garage-type overhead doors for this purpose. Someone removed the roof and added a second level of office space, and rented both the office space above, and the garage space below for warehouse and light manufacturing. A malfunctioning decades-old furnace started a fire in the middle section of the building, which burned most everything that was combustible.

On the occasions I go to Pittsburgh International Airport, I like to make a trip here and see the progress. I once had a job here, after all.

The couple of years of water and snow infiltration have not been kind. This is the front facade, which faces the street. A portion of the roof had survived the fire, but has since collapsed.

This is the "before" shot. It wasn’t so devastated a year ago, which makes me wonder if some arsonist came along and started another fire.

Here are those stairs to nowhere. Before the fire, this led to a door, opening to a corridor that ran the length of the building, with offices, and a seldom-cleaned bathroom, on on your right.

This is the lobby, or what remains of it. The bright shiny thing on the door is the reflection of the strobe flash on my camera.

But the back half of the building is where it gets interesting. The middle portion of the original masonry structure, which sustained the most damage in the fire, has been razed, creating two buildings where there had only been one before. The front building, which you saw earlier, is hopelessly trashed as of July 2006.

See what I mean when I say "two buildings in place of one?"

Here’s where the other half begins.

A cheaply-built wooden lean-to addition had been constructed here over a concrete slab next to the original structure, opposite the garage door openings. It was burned, but not to the ground. See my previous egg. The ashes and contents have been removed. An old forklift was in here, and was presumably sold for scrap.

This is the "before" shot.

Some amount of work as been done on the truncated secondary building, which is at the opposite end of the front facade. The garage door opening has been closed, and new windows installed.

But it still needs a roof. The interior has been completely gutted. There used to be a bathroom here, accessable to the outside.

I’ll get back to you with more details.
