Lock picking is the act of pushing one pin at a time,in a lock, past its shear point, which in turn, will unlock the lock.
If you are interested in making your own lockpick set then look no further, because i will teach you how to make a professional 2 piece lockpicking set
with realtively easy to find materials.
YOU WILL NEED
a bench grinder
a cup of water (for quenching)
a carbon steel, flexible, shatterproof hacksaw blade
a propane torch
(no picture, but you know what i mean)
sand paper
(no picture)
WHAT TO DO
WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES WHEN USING THE BENCH GRINDER, THERE IS SPARKS FLYING EVERYWHERE
ok first you need to take the hacksaw blade and cut it at about 11cm for both sides.
you will end up with this
then take the one that you want to turn into a pick. we will be making a hooked pick with this set.
ok start grinding a pick blank now.
a pick blank can be turned into either a hooked pick or a rake
grind on the toothed side and shape a sort of arc. dont forget to quench after every 2 seconds of grinding. when the grinding is done on your pick blank you should get this.
now the handle is the broad end and the other end will be turned into a hook. the shaft can be made thinner but that is the minimum thickness of the shaft.
ok more grinding. dont forget to quench. you need to shape the end into a hook. how much it will hook is personal preference but mine is a good indication of how hooked it should be (my shaft is also a good thickness ).
once you get the hook and shaft thickness the way you like it then your pretty much done with the pick.
now onto the tension wrench.
you need your other 11cm hacksaw blade.
grind it down till it is about 3 millimetres in width.
dont forget to quench
(sorry no picture, but im sure you understand)
you can test the width by putting both your tension wrench and lockpick in a lock. if they dont fit then grind the tension wrench down a bit. make sure your tension wrench’s width is wider then the locks opening or else it wont turn the lock.
ok now that your tension wrench’s width is good its time to bend it.
light up a propane torch, and with plyers hold the tension wrench in the hottest part of the flame.
wait until it is red hot and then bend 90 degrees.
as soon as its bent dunk it in your water. it should set in shape.
it should look like this (i couldve bent it a bit more)
NEVER DO IT MORE THEN ONCE, YOU WILL MAKE THE METAL BRITTLE AND IT WILL SNAP IN THE LOCK
now you put it back under the flame, about a 2cm down from your bend, when its red hot you twist the neck and quickly dunk in water. this is done so that when you are picking a lock, you can have a nice flat spot for when you apply tension.
it will look like this.
when all done the tesnion wrench should look like this:
now all you have to do is sand off the paint with sand paper and your done.
Jul 16, 2006 4:30 am - Good egg, ive done this before...
but its good explained! And nice pics and nice movie! but if u want to piclock doors you will need for older doors, thicker and harder picklocks, and for the newer ones, you will need (Thats the stupid thing i hate) very thin picklocks, AND very hard...
Jul 16, 2006 4:35 am - I fu want to picklock, you firstly should know how a lock works. There are several "Pins" and ya i will call them stoppers, what stops wrong obstacles at wrong keys. If all pins in a lock are ressed down, you can turn around the lock!
Most loder doors have only one big pin, you nearly could open them with a Allen key!
Jul 16, 2006 4:45 am - i am making the egg as we speak...how to lockpick, look for it soon
and i opened my dead lock on my door in 30 seconds with these.
so they are fine with new door locks, thats why you use carbon steel hacksaw blades. VERY STRONG
Jul 16, 2006 6:57 am - I’ve already voted, but heres a video of the exact same thing
http://www.youtube. om/watch?v=auQbi_fkdGE&mod =related&search= I urge people not to rate this egg down because of that video, this egg is one with original pictures and it is originally written so it should still get a good rating
Jul 16, 2006 8:13 am - lol i do like the raking but i prefer the picking technique on doors because its more easy to know if youve picked evry pin if you do it one by one.
Jul 16, 2006 9:27 am - another 4* same reason as in the lock pickin eggs y i didnt give a 5. and 4* for ur profile too.....o and where do u live? if i send u like 20 bucks will u make me these?
Jul 16, 2006 9:40 am - 5* Really clear, images, and well written egg. It’s like PYRO1234321’s video, but I like your egg better because you don’t have to wait forever for it to load.
Keep up the awesome egg making!
Jul 16, 2006 2:17 pm - decent egg, nice pictures, but i would not use a hacksaw blade for the tension wrench, they are too brittle after heating and bending. Use the metal strip found in some wiper blades for cars instead. You can get them easy at a scrapyard.
Jul 16, 2006 2:44 pm - i know it is mentioned in the egg, but it is very hard to rehardeden the metal properly. The tension wrench may seem fine at first, but after use, it will become weaker and weaker, until it breaks... which you don’t want, especially if it is some ones house lock. The window wiper blades metal is flexible, and has a bit of spring which is nice whenyour applying tension.
Jul 17, 2006 5:48 pm - 5***** good choice of metal....titanium is to much of a pain in the ass to shape but would just as good or better.... great display, explaination, and presentation.
......( what’s sharper than a diamond? answer:a fart ....it’ll go straight through your pants without leaving a hole)
Jul 17, 2006 6:01 pm - sweet egg good presentation etc. but its only a 2 pc set so ur kinda limited here but it outlines the process and gives u an idea of how to make any pick- 4* cuz my 5th wont work
Jul 22, 2006 12:33 am - nice egg but if you use water, ice, and salt insted of just water you will harden the picks "better"
or a cooler and dry ice works too but the pick cannot be set on the dry ice.

why waste time gathering that shit when water does the job just fine????
Jul 23, 2006 6:55 pm - heh thats cool. i just found a set of a bunch of lock picks in a tool box in an airport hanger.wich was weird cus they are illegal
Aug 16, 2006 2:51 am - My friend made lock picks, he just snapped the blades then grinded them down, then fine tuned them with the finer grinder not the coarse one. So cutting the hacksaw blades is not neccessary.
Au 19, 2006 2:01 pm - i seen this b4 in video form on youtube, but either way its still good and u got ur own pics ... i did this b4 but err it really sucked lol. mayb a few more tries and it will work.mayb a ruler showing how low to grind into the hacksaw would b good. mine was too big at first... grinded it and now it looks flat sideways lol. so yea. a ruler representing how low to grind onthe different parts would b good 5*
