Chapter Five: Installing The Tri-colored LED light
Chapter Six: Case Mod the mouse for the Clear lens led holder
Chapter Seven: Testing and reassembling
In this egg, I will tell you how to install a tri-colored LED light into your mouse, for customization
to impress your friends.
Note:this replacement is for the LED used for illuminating the end of the mouse, on an opitcal mouse the other LED in the center us used for tracking, don’t replace that one.
For this egg you will need:
1. tri- color flashing LED (you can find this Here) #led-95
2. clear cliplight LED holder (You can find this Here) HLDCL-C
3. Small gauge wire
4. 100 ohm resistor
5. heatshrink tubing
6. solder, soldering iron
7. drill and bit and a screwdriver
8. and of course a mouse that uses a LED (or add one) I used a MS intellimouse optical usb mouse
Ok, so first, you are going to want to unplug/take the batteries out of your mouse. After you do that, It’s time to unscrew the mouse. Flip your mouse over and locate the smooth rubber pads on the bottom of the mouse, the "glider" strips. Pry those off, and unscrew em. After you do that, you’ll want to take off the screw wheel, and take out the circuit board. Next, you want to unsolder the LED light. I kept mine, just for fun.
Now solder a 100 OHM resistor inline with the + (the longer) lead on the 3 color led and since this is a USB mouse, connect the wires directly to the + and - connectors on the circuit board. This peticular LED is sensitive to current requirments, if you have too much resistance, then the colors won’t cycle. If you have too little resistance your LED will die very soon!! The measured voltage should be around 5 vdc. Put the LED in so that it will fit into the lens, and give the right illumination effect.
Chapter 6 Case Mod the mouse for the Clear lens led holder
Drill a hole about the same size as the clear LED holder, and drill the case for the LED. If you didn’t have this, the colors of the LED wouldn’t show, therefore needing the LED lens. Cut some plastic that will fit in the area to cover the LED. A clear frosted base would be ideal. You COULD go without the case, but the light may get hot enough to burn your hand.
Before you reassemble the mouse again, plug the mouse
into the USB port and make sure the LED that you
installed works. Assuming it does, Your ready to
reassemble. Push the wires away from the place where the screws come up, and assemble the mouse. Now, you
test all the functions of your mouse.

The End, Thank You For Reading My Egg This egg was created using the RottenEggs Egg Creator
Jul 19, 2006 11:24 pm - I’d like to point out that some of the lines break at weird points because I made it in Notepad first, then copied into Egg Maker, then copied Into rotteneggs.
Jul 20, 2006 12:11 am - i dunno, usually i dont impress my friends with computer parts, hey you guys, look what i did! -Wow cool! -Hey can i try?!? -Look at the colors!
Jul 20, 2006 12:15 am - Its an awesome idea and all but you took it from another site and just reworded it. In my mind, thats basically copied. 3*s (only because its a cool concept).
Jul 20, 2006 12:24 pm - ^Well, the reason most c/p haters say that the egg deserves a 0 is the fact that the owner put no effort into it. I infact, did put effort into this egg, and took the time to test it on my own mouse.
