I made this egg to help those new to the hobby of Metal Detecting, and to encourage other people to try it. A lot of people might think, "haha whatta fag who goes metal detecting?" Well they wont be thinkin that long once you show them a 500 year old gold coin you found at your local beach. So, hopefully this does help some of you, and I’ll get started on choosing you metal detector.

CHOOSING YOUR METAL DETECTOR

If you’re new to metal detecting all you need to remember when purchasing your metal detector is this: buy one that actually works. Don’t buy a crappy little handheld, discovery channel brand, metal detector. And, you don’t need to buy a thousand dollar one either (unless you’re fairly wealthy and you want to). I got mine for around 50$ I think, and sure it’s not top of the line, but it works, tells the depth, type of metal ect. Mine is a Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 (below). I would strongly reccomend it for beginners.

METAL DETECTING ACCESSORIES

1. Headphones: Extremely useful and most people who go metal detecting have them. But you can’t just take your normal ipod headphones or whatever you have, you have to buy headphones for metal detecting. They help dround out outside noise and you can also buy headphones with volume control in case you can’t hear the beeping of the detector very well. But you can get some perfectly fine ones that cost only like 15 bucks.

2. Bags or Pouches: These are very helpful for carrying the objects you find.

3. Knife, Shovel, and Sifter: Madnitory! Unless you want to be digging with your hands. But its pretty hard to do that if you’re hunting in a field or in the woods. And you also need a sifer to sift through dirt and sand to find smaller items.

4. Magnifying glass: Pretty helpful. I mean you never know what you’ll find and how big it will be.

5. A flashlight (only needed if you’re going hunting at night(DUH)) These ones i find the best though.

6. Backpack: Very useful but if you’re dumb and can’t figure this out, it’s for carrying the shovel, flashlight ect.

GONE DETECTING...

Stuff Needed

1.Metal detector with headphones
2.Bag or Puch
3.Knife
4.Shovel
5.Sifter
6.Magnifying Glass
7.Light (optional)
8.Backpack
9.Buddy to come with you (optional, but much more fun)

Location: Choose wherever you want. the Beach, woods, a field, your backyard, whatever.

When: Again it doesn’t really matter the time of day or time of year. People even go hunting in the winter months because nobodys is out there on the beach when its cold out. (But i’m in Michigan. Down south more people might still be out on the beach because it doesnt get as cold).

How To Metal Detect: It is a very simple process. First, position the detector a few inches above the ground. Then, start walking forward kind of slow, and also about the same speed, swing the dtector from left to right, and just keep doing that until you cover the area you’re detecting in. When you get a good signal with the beeping of the detector, stop, and move it over the area it was beeping in, untill you get the fastest beeping. Then dig down in that spot. Hopefully the detector you have tells the depth so you know how far to dig.

Thanks for readin. If you vote low please tell why.

For some strange reason, the National Park Service (NPS) and the Washington State Parks won’t let you metal detect on their property.

Rejoice!

This could easily have been shorter, but you put in the extra effort to make it this way, and most people on RE appreciate that. Sort of risky to pick metal detecting for a first egg, but 4* nonetheless.

This is an awesome egg!!! This is my fisrt comment. I gave this a 5* because it was very well though out, well typed, and got its message across. I have a metal detector and I go out every now and then, so this was basically just a refresher.

Where ever I go I see old people doing this and wondered,... do they find anything? I guess they could. If they went to the right spot. Maybe I’ll get into it. Might find a fortune and not have to work anymore. Been thinking about this for awhile.
