Ever since i bought my first paintball gun i have spent countless hours shooting stuff. Cans, mailboxes, stop signes, everything. But today im going to make a cool target that can easily be set up in my own backyard for some serious target practice. The final product will be a solid target with four knock down doors.
Materials
1-Scrap plywood roughly 28"x30"
1-2x4 or scraps of 2x4 larger then 30"
1-Saw, i used a jigsaw for the plywood and a
circular saw for cutting 2x4’s
1-Marker
1-Ruler/ square
1-Bundle of string
4-Door Hinges
a couple of hook nails
1-pack of cable ties
1. Ok first start out by marking out your box. I made my box 28"x30" for portablility.
2. After drawing out your box measure two inches in and create a lip for the 4 boxes.
3. now measure out to the middle of the two sides and draw lines across. This is where pictures really come in handy
1 and 2.
3.
VERY GOOD! ok now create a lip for the 4 boxes
Now cut out the 4 boxes and save the cut-outs for later. After you are done cutting out the 4 boxes it should look like this...
as you can see the 4 openings are for the swinging targets.
Next take your scrap 2x4 and create a box for the target frame to sit on. ehhhh something like this.
wo0t w00t ok so now that we have the frame mounted on the target we need to install the swinging doors. We do this by first positioning the 4 door hinges and screwing them down
after installing the door hinges mark your cutouts and install. I used cable ties to install my doors because a screw and bolt would get in the way when the doors were swinging open. just feed the cable ties threw the door hinge and the door and pull tight.
here is a behind picture of all the mounted doors.
after a quick spray paint job your brandnew target should look somewhat like this.
but wait it needs one more thing
ahh now thats what im talkin about.
now you could do this with just about anything. hell you could do this with some paper and cardboard and make a target for your blow darts or airsoft guns or whatever. I hope this egg gave everyone some good ideas.
Optional improvements
as you noticed i had some string and some hook nails in the materials list. these are for connecting to all the doors so that once you have knocked them all down you can simply pull a string and they will all stand back up.
also you could take some scrap wood and add some triangled support leggs to the back of your new target.
another thing would be to spraypaint circular targets to each door. i was considering this until i thought about how fast those would vanish under the layers of paint.
Well i hope you enjoyed my egg. Im gonna go get some target practice
Jul 25, 2006 4:18 pm - hummm lets see youve got a spyder pilot acs 05, and i think(im not into tippmanns) a a-5. but i dont need practice but good egg.5*
Jul 25, 2006 6:27 pm - nice egg. lol at first look I thought you were making a practice set of window panes for when you go out to seek revenge on someones house. 5* either way.
Jul 26, 2006 12:11 am - u could always invest in V-balls(AKA paintball-sized velcro balls u shoot at a velcro target) but theyre pretty expensive and this sounds like a good idea too 5* and faves
