To walk in the footsteps of YellowSnow I’ve decided to show you how to take pictures for your eggs. Some of the images are just too blurry and or WAY too big. This is merely a guide on how to take better pictures for your eggs and in real life if needed.

Proper Lighting
-Most of you know that you need light to take your pictures, and where there is not light you use flash. There are times to use flash and when not to use flash. If you use flash too close to an object it will seem all “white washed” from the flash.

]Example of WTF I’m talking about

No light source at all. Nobody in their right mind would post a picture so dark, even if it was this dark it could be easily brightened up with Adobe. Save the time and take a better picture

Same shot with flash. See? All “white washed” and blown out. If your to use a flash don’t do so closely.

There you go! With the proper lighting you can see all the detail of what your taking a picture of.

When to use flash
-Use flash when there is NO light source available. You don’t always need to use it really. Here is my basement stairs with the flash. As you can see it lit everything up quite well.

Focusing the Camera
-If the camera is in focus then you wont get blur. Blurring can occur if the camera moves when the shutter is closing and you will achieve this piece of work:

How to solve the problem:
-Steady your hand!
-Put the camera on a level surface:

Use a tripod:

Not everybody has a tripod I know, but try to keep a steady hand whilst taking the photo, it helps.

Closeups
-When you want to get super close to an object to catch its detail or whatever you want to use the macro setting on your camera:

Most cameras should have it, if it doesn’t take the picture from farther away and crop out what you want and zoom into it using Adobe PS.

With out the Macro setting:

With the Macro setting:

As you can clearly see, there is a difference.
Picture Size
-This is one of the biggest (literally) problems. Picture size. When you post a huge ass picture people cannot see the entire picture with out having to scroll. It is quite annoying.

You can either do 1 of 2 things:
-Re-size them
-Put them into thumbnail form (explained later)

Re-sizing them is the easiest option, provided you download a simple tool.

You can download this too directly by clicking this link:
Click this to download

Or if you think I’m a lying piece of shit:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
^That’s the site it can be downloaded from.

Look for this:

-Click what’s circled in the top right corner, but I saved you this step, that is if you clicked the first link above.

Now when you install it and what-not all you do is highlight/click on the pictures you want to re-size and you’ll see this:

After you confirm you will get something that looks like this:

Resize the pictures to 640x480. That is the optimum size for posting pictures on Rotteneggs and most other sites, it doesn’t stretch the page out and it loads more smoothly for those still stuck on Dial Up.

Now, onto thumbnails.

Tumbnails and YOU!
-Now sometimes you don’t always want to resize them, or you want to show the picture in high-resolution, thus you post it in a thumbnail form. ImageShack (also explained later) provides you a link for thumbnails.

Now I took a screenshot of which one to use and I’ll even post it in thumbnail form so you know what I’m talking about.

Image Hosting
-We need a place to host our images so we can post them. Many of you use PhotoBucket, I use PhotoBucket to host videos and videos only. Why? Well if you remove the images from your Bucket the pictures are gone from the egg! That is why I use ImageShack.

http://www.imageshack.us

There are other image hosting websites, but that is the one I use.

“Light Painting”
-This is a technique used in completely dark situations where there is no light source at all. All you need is a Tripod, Flashlight, and a camera with adjustable shutter speed.

When your Urban Exploring and you come to a room or object you want to photograph and don’t want to use flash this can be used. The longer exposure you set on the camera the better this turns out better.

Basically, set your shot up. Set the exposure, hit the “take picture button” and when the picture is being taken wave the flashlight around the room/object like a mad man. This works well with A LOT of people for rooms. Just “paint” the room with your flashlight. If you have more then 1 flashlight its turns out better. But here is an example of what I’m talking about:

See? I “painted” the room with my flashlight and it captured it all on the shot.

I’m no expert at photography but I can show you all a thing or 2, and I just did I suppose.

This original idea was inspired by YellowSnow, but his account got fucked and he hasn’t come back. He shared some useful information with you all and I thought it was only appropriate to re-share it.

Nice egg Clegg,

About the lighters and the tripod pictures.
I think you should read this article:

http://en.wikip dia.org/wiki/Rule_of_third

It basically says never to put the subject in the center of the picture.

Quote:
The application of the rule of thirds to photographs is considered by many to make them more aesthetic and professional.

5 anyway.

im still better than you!

This could be useful for people taking pictures for their eggs, though.
