Ok so a while back, some guy on here was asking what to do with some ground flower bloomers he got. Well, I got some from my friend, lit one off, and decided that they were garbage, so I decided to open them up, take the powder out, and combine it in a different container. There’s a video at the end of it going off. You can hear me say "come on" right before it went off. The first time I tried to set it off, it didn’t work, so I thought that it wasn’t going to work again. Anyway, when it went off, it startled me and I tripped kinda, so I moved the camera, and it went out of the picture for a second.
Here’s what you need: 1. Ground flower bloomers
2. Small cardboard tube
3. Knife/Scissors
4. Tape (not really needed)
5. Something to grind the stuff with
6. Matches (optional)
7. Fuse (just use one that came in the bloomers)
8. Hot glue gun
9. Caps (again optional)
10. Tool to scrape stuff with
Procedure:
1. Ok so first you need to get the flammable stuff out of the bloomer. This is time consuming & a pain in the ass to do. At the opposite end of the fuse, there was a cloth like thing there. Cut that off. Then stick your scraping tool up that and start scraping. I used this thing on my pocketknife (don’t know what it’s called):
ALSO, the first powder that comes out (mine was red, not sure if they’re all the same), is NOT flammable. So make sure the first powder that comes out goes into the trash. Now, I say powder, but there is really big chucks of stuff stuck in that tube, and you just have to scrape it all out into a powder, because it doesn’t fall out. See Diagram:
2. So after you’ve got the stuff out (mine was black and silver), you want to grind it up, so it’s pretty fine. I also added powdered matches to the stuff from the bloomers at this point. You can do this if you want, I’m sure this had some effect on the final product.

3. Ok, you need to make end caps. I just traced around my tube on a VHS tape box, and then cut them out. After you’ve got the circles cut out, put a ring of hot glue around the edge of one of the circles, and press it onto the bottom of the cylinder. I put more hot glue on it to make sure it was sealed properly, so it wouldn’t leak.
4. Take your second circle; punch a hole in the middle for the fuse. (Just make it big enough for the fuse. Don’t worry about the shit not being able to fly out, because the top gets burned up right away.) Set that aside.
5. Take your powder and dump it into the cylinder. If you are adding the caps, dump some of the powder in, just enough to cover the bottom, drop in a cap, dump more powder on top of it, throw in another cap, and repeat for as many as you are using. They don’t really do much; just make a ripping sort of noise.
6. Glue the other circle (the one with the hole in it) on top.
7. The final product (I wrapped mine in duct tape just for shits and giggles):
Stick your fuse in, take it outside, and set it off.
Aug 01, 2006 12:16 pm - lol you didn’t trip, you were still trying to get away from the sparkler, that’s why the view is still panning out at the end of the video.
Aug 01, 2006 12:18 pm - btw, how is this any better than keeping the groundbloom intact? Looks like you self voted as well, I cant see anyone giving this 5*
Aug 01, 2006 12:20 pm - Ya I was trying to back up and tripped kinda. Its a hell of a lot better because it shoots the sparks a lot farther up and farther out. It also lasts longer. And you can’t self vote.
Aug 28, 2006 2:11 pm - Milling Good use of those ground bloomers bud. Trick i use with powders is mill them on a ceramic plate with something ceramic or plastic/glass (no sparks) then filter through a plastic window screen. Finer your powder, the bigger the ignition and blast!
