In this egg I will be teaching you how to make Polumnas, A type of firecracker in a triangle shape. These may be different from the real ones, but this is how I was taught, and how I continue to make them. You can modify these to make them flash grenades, or make them bigger.
What you will need
A sheet of A4 paper
A hobby knife(or other cutting implement)
Pliers(with wire cutter, if not also wirecutters)
1 Sparkler
A ruler(or other measuring implement)
Sharpie or other drawing item
Masking tape
4 rings of 8 caps, so 32 caps
OPTIONAL(to make other colours)
Clear sticky tape
Sharpie in colour of choice
Step 1
Take your piece of A4 paper and put it landscape way. Using your ruling implement, rule 3cm up the side of the page and mark. Do this on the opposite side too.
Step 2
Rule a line joining the 2 marks. This line should be 3cm high all the way along
Step 3
Using your hobby knife, cut tdown the line and keep the thin bit of paper.
Step 4
Take your piece of paper and fold one corner up.
Step 5
Fold the triangle over
Step 6
Continue to do this until you have folded the whole piece of paper.
Step 7
Once you have done this, Unroll it and put it aside.
Step 8
Get your sparkler and estimate about 3cm from the end without the metal handle. Crush the sparkler on that spot.
Step 9
Crush the rest of the sparkler so its metal then 3cms of sparkler.
Step 10
Using the wire cutters, Cut the metal just before it reaches the sparkler
Step 11
Take your hobby knife and extract all the powder from the caps. (I only did one for informational purposes)
Step 12
Get your piece of paper and the 3cm sparkler. Fold the corner up again using the line from when you unfolded it. Put the sparkler in on an angle.
Step 13
Fold the corners up 3 times. INCLUDING the time you did just then. You should have a little triangular pouch with one side open. Pour your cap powder in. I like to add a little bit of finely powdered sparkler aswell.
Step 14
Keep folding it until you have no more paper to fold.
Step 15
Now here is the optional part, you can go either way.
I like to take option A because I don’t care about the colours. If you are planning on selling them, skip ahead to option B.
OPTION A
Wrap a few layers of masking tape around the polumna. Make sure there are no gaps for gases to escape.
OPTION B(No pic)
Put a tiny blob of super glue under the last fold to keep it down. Using the sharpie in your colour of choice, colour the whole thing in. Wrap in clear sticky tape.

this is pretty much a smaller version of a sparkler "bomb" but this is heaps good, wouldnt have thought of this, and i can actually carry this around. lol my sparkler bombs are usally made in 2 litre bottles, not very easy to hide.

Before you fold these, cover the paper in super glue, then allow it to dry, and coat the outside with more superglue. It makes for a MUCH louder bang. My 0.5 gram BP "polumnas" made in this fashion can be heard over 2km away. |
