This egg will tell you how to build a high powered weapon which can shoot marbles or the darts mentioned in my blow gun egg at around 250 fps.

The best part about this weapon is that it is silent and is powered by the age old chemical reaction of household bi-carb soda & vinegar.

You will need:
. 2-3 feet long 1/2 inch wide tube
. ball valve tap (60 cents at hardware stores)
. empty 1.25 litre soft drink bottle and lid
. a sharp knife
. a rectangle of cling film
. white vinegar
. bi-carb soda (baking soda)
. hot glue gun
. rubber tape or masking tape
. blue tac (not pictured) I used orange tac.

Start by taking the bottle cap and cutting a hole it the top as big as the end of the ball valve like so:

Then slip the bottle cap over one end of the ball valve with the thread facing away from the tap.

Now take the hot glue gun and glue an air-tight seal around the ball valve tube on both side of the bottle cap.

Take the rubber tape or masking tape and wrap it around the other end of the ball valve tube until the barrel fits on snuggly.

Get the blue-tac and make it fit around the ball valve tube inside the bottle cap like so:

This will act as the seal that got ruined when you cut through the cap.

When you are ready to use the weapon first fill an eight of the bottle with the vinegar then set the bottle aside. Take a sheet of cling-film and spread a line of bi-carb soda on it.

Then roll it up so its not leaking and place it inside the bottle, making sure the ball valve tap is closed, and quickly screw the now modified lid onto the bottle (this is easier if you put the barrel on after screwing the lid on).***please ignore the tape on the thread of the bottle as this is an old picture of one of my trials that didnt work properly - don\’t put the tape on the thread and it\’ll work fine!***

Shake up the bottle and the cling-film sausage will open up and the pressure will build as the bi-carb soda and vinegar react together.

When it has stopped fizzing the bottle should have roughly 70 psi of pressure in it (enough to send a dart 200 feet at about 250 fps).

Aim it at your target and turn the tap as fast as you can. If you do it right the marble/dart should leave the barrel very quicky.

For info on how to build the dart view my other egg.
Have fun!!!

Get like 3 or 4 in series, must hurt like hell!
Maybe you could use it as a sub for the CO2 can in a paintabll gun. Rig up a "fuel" injection system for it, with control valves so it doesn’t burst (hopefully).
I&rs uo;m working on something with the bottle actually blowing up, but with a ... twist.

Good idea, but none of the marbles I found in my sisters room fit a 1/2 inch PVC pipe. I measured the marbles to be about 9/16 of an inch, and my PVC pipe to be 1/2 inch(duh!).

It’d be easier to just use all pvc like an air powered potato gun kinda thing.

oh yeah and i reconise that slingshot in the background in there, i had it once and it really could do with a heck of a lot more power. but i got mine from the central markets and it goes about 225 meters far and if you have any spare time, join the slingshot owners group
http://www.rotteneg s.com/r3/show/se/185019.ht l
you can be a mod if you join because you own a slingshot

Aug 15, 2006 8:25 am -
put a pump on it and maybe get rid of the air tank and make a good trigger for it and with the air tank gone you could get a good 50 PSI from one pump because of the lesser space for the air to pressurise and maybe turn it into a muzzle loaded pellet gun would be sweet
btw i got meself a ball valve but it doesnt turn very easily. any suggestions?

cKy_forever

Au 15, 2006 4:31 pm -
you could try adding a bit of olive oil to the moving part of the ball valve but they tend to loosten up after you’ve turned them continuously for a bit, it just needs breaking in ........ like shoes
