Monterey Rock is basicly a limestone cliff area on the edge of a reservoir. The community has developed around it and its become a landmark over time. Now its where seniors go to vadilize there class year and do drugs. Theres a shitload of urban ledgends there from sucide to people getting raped by hobos. Well i need something to do this summer so i went and checked it out
From the west i went up the slope to get to the lookout area of the rock

Looking to the west you can see Monterey Stadium on the left. Where all the football, track, and graduation ceremonies happen

To the left of the opening to the lookout area theres a little weed hidden path to a cliff area

Ground level view of the jump area. About a 30 foot drop into 6 inch deep rocky water

Going back to the opening into the lookout area, you go to the right and you see a rocky, stairlike path downwards

First ridge off, about 6 feet below lookout area, looks like someone busted their head on that brick shooting out on the left. Hobos?

Not much to see, same drop distance as jump area just with weeds growing through the rocks

On top of the big face rock, its starting to smell like piss and river now from the cave. Theres a narrow ridge leading into the cave. Very sandy but luckily either someone encarved little foot pads on there or they just eroded away

Here is where i took some panoramic shots but because i used up most of my memory on the close shots i had to reduce the picture size. This along with the mist over the reservoir and the cloudyness made the pictures more blurry. I enhanced them as best i could and put them in a gif, estimated the distances, and labled where i was standing.
My overall conclusion: The hobo rape myths where made by the seniors originally to keep lowerclassmen away from there "special spot" then stupid people took it too seriosly, changed the stories, and now people go there to do drugs and drink at night as a "thrill". The most i was worried about was catching some cracked up maniac passed out in there, but my fears where unessicary aparently. Its a nice looking monument with a "secret"(yeah, right) area for "naughty things". But thats just in this experts opinion
Aug 18, 2006 5:34 pm - I found an abbandont appartment complex about 9 months ago that i checked out today first but they turned it into "government housing"
