Building A Illuminated PC Keyboard
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Materials
1: Keyboard
2: 2 X LEDs or More
3: Power source, (Battery or Transformer)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Am Using:
Wireless Keyboard
2 out of these 3 LEDs
Transformer
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Building Time...
To begin with you need to remove the (Caps Lock), (Left Shift), (Left Ctrl), (A), (Enter) and (~ with #) keys.
Place one led on each side facing towards each other, place them below the (A, S, D, F,G ,H ,J...) row.
Like So
and the same on the other side.
You can alternalty place more LEDs above the (Q, W, E, R, T, Y...) row, as shown in the picture above.
To secure the LED\’s in place, I used Blue Tac.
You could how ever use Glue or Tape.
Now, replace all the keys and connect the power to the LEDs.
I have connected my 2 LEDs in Parrallel Circuit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Result
The finished project should look like this.
In The Light
Here you can see the wires, i havnt hidden them yet but you just place them under the keyboard and secure them.
In The Dark
One of my LEDs is brighter than the other, but it still look cool.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The End, thankyou for reading my egg :).

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:34 pm - I plan on building a much larger one with alot more LEDs and connecting them to the keyboard input.
But for now this will work cool. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:39 pm - Nice and easy homemade project 5***** |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:39 pm - hahahha
voted for himself,
still..... five i guess |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:40 pm - Oh and where did you get the LEDs |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:41 pm - You cant self vote dumbass. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:41 pm -
No I Did Not
You cant do it |

 | Aug 30, 2006 3:47 pm -
Quote: Oh and where did you get the LEDs
i got them out of a car magazine, there ment to go in the car. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 4:05 pm - You can get the leds for cheap at Radioshack. Good egg. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 4:20 pm - um ok, sorry for saying he self voted, it was just funny looking that he had no comments 1 vote and five stars. It was only a joke no real reason to call me a dumbass. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 4:40 pm - very nice. u should get a small drill bit and drill under the keys so it hides the wires. and put more of them under the keys, then it would look kewl! 5* for u |

 | Aug 30, 2006 5:00 pm - I would rather buy one that was professionally done. But I really like this 5*, and favourites. |

Totaly, i would to, but i like how it is anyway and i dont have money :(

 | Aug 30, 2006 5:52 pm - awesome :D very detailed, pics and all goodjob, awesome result, 5* |

 | Aug 30, 2006 6:07 pm - dude this is cool. ima do this. 5* |

 | Aug 30, 2006 6:51 pm - Haha lmao... am I the only one that sees the humor, in the Irony of havin wireless keyboard with a wire... Nice job 5* ( and i know he said u can use a battery pack, but its still funy) |

 | Aug 30, 2006 6:54 pm - Good idea, only problem, These show the outline of the keys, not the letters. If your a touch typist then its no problem, but for those who look and type 1 wpm this is not good. 5* though |

LOL yea, i surpose i could drill down and connect it to the keyboard batterys
Quote: only problem, These show the outline of the keys, not the letters.
Yea, thats a pain but for the next egg i have kind of sroted that out |

 | Aug 30, 2006 7:07 pm - lemme guess, a translucent keyboard? |

 | Aug 30, 2006 7:08 pm - If you wanted to take a really long time, you could drill, cut and shake out the letters and stuff, and then it\’s cool.
I personally don\’t think this desrves the rating it\’s got, so 2*. But still a good job. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 7:20 pm - good idea, but one problem- wires. have you though about replacing LEDs for an EL panel? You could cut it to custom size to fit the keyboard. Because then you would only have one wire instead of a bunch. But nice egg- 5* |

 | Aug 30, 2006 7:23 pm - i forgot to mention that EL is a bit expensive, so I wouldn\’t know whether using LEDs all the way is cheaper or not. |

 | Aug 30, 2006 8:35 pm - this is not bad,,, i say 4 stars |

 | Aug 30, 2006 9:25 pm - Keyboard Cool idea, gonna try one with more leds and drilling wire holes thru the bottom! |

 | Aug 30, 2006 9:35 pm - I can\’t believe people like \"put LED\’s in it\" eggs so much
(goddamn slashes) |

 | Aug 31, 2006 1:39 am - lol buy a flexiglow one like mine. it has clear buttons so you can ACCTULLY SEE IT lol shit post 0* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 2:31 am - kwl i got 100 led lights and put them in every key because these led likes are in ball shapes so i stuck every one in my keyboard and theres one switch i have which turns them all on it looks ace now my m8 gonna buy it off me for 30 quid lol |

 | Aug 31, 2006 2:31 am - oh and 5* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 4:35 am - Love the pics dude! I want one! 5* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 5:29 am - good, but could u drill a little hole so the wires go under the keyboard? 5* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 9:21 am - If u use EL light stuff, you can make the light go all around the keys! You have to take all the keys off tho. 5* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 1:04 pm - Good idea.... BAd way of doing it. |

 | Aug 31, 2006 5:54 pm - Thats pretty awesome. But I would put more LED\’s and have the wires run out with the other cord. 4* |

 | Aug 31, 2006 7:22 pm - cool, but i dont like all the cords hanging there. Make a hole in the back and pput it threw that.. |

 | Aug 31, 2006 10:19 pm - Nice I will have to make one of these. |

 | Sep 01, 2006 10:15 pm - sweet, 5*s |

 | Sep 02, 2006 1:04 am - ill give it a 3 just cause everyone else seems to like it..
you can buy those keyboards pretty cheap and the end result of your didnt look all that great
so id recommend just buying one..looks nice too |

 | Sep 03, 2006 4:17 pm - I like it, it would be nice if it was all internal, but as you said you are working on it, 5* nice job man |

 | Sep 04, 2006 7:44 am - 5***** but u can get all these wires from the inside of the keyboard |

 | Sep 04, 2006 2:41 pm - another great egg by battery ****5***** |

 | S p 04, 2006 3:14 pm - instead of using a lot of individual leds, get some small strips of plexiglass, then frost it with sandpaper, put an led at each end, and a strip of plexi in each row of keys. |

 | Sep 04, 2006 3:55 pm - ROtten Eggs should have scratchpads for things like this... Ideas in progress. It’s still a pretty good Idea, too bad I have a laptop = / |

 | Sep 15, 2006 10:01 am - good job man it is nice 5***** |

 | Sep 21, 2006 5:16 pm - This is cool, i didn’t think it would look this cool 5* | |
