This egg will explain what torrents are and how to use them (basics)
WARNING:while P2P file sharing technology is completely legal, many of the files traded through P2P are copyrighted. Unless you live in Canada where citizens are shielded from P2P copyright lawsuits, then downloading P2P files may put you at risk for a civil lawsuit in any other country. These lawsuits usually take the form of class-action suits, filed against groups of users who are logged as blatantly copying and distributing copyrighted materials. Recently, the MPAA and RIAA, along with the governments of England and Australia, took several thousand users to court, demanding that they pay thousands of dollars in copyright infringement penalties.
Your Internet Service Provider may, at their discretion, release their logs of your downloading activity to potential copyright plaintiffs. The more megabytes you download, the more you risk being sued by the MPAA, RIAA, and other pro-artist groups.
Chapter 1-Torrent Programs/Clients
There are many torrent programs around but in this egg I will be using µTorrent. You can download µTorrent from HERE. But other torrent clients worth mentioning are; BitTorrent and Azureus I have used both so if you need help with one just instant message me.
Chapter 2-The Torrents
What Are They? Torrents (filename.torrent) are the latest form of Internet P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing. Torrents work by simultaneously downloading small bits of files from many web sources and peers.
Where Do I Get The Torrents From? There are many torrent search engines around in my opinion the best torrent search engine is torrrentz.com as it not only searches its own database it also searches all the other popular torrent data bases.
Quote:
Search through dozens of torrent websites and millions of pages from one simple, fast and convenient place. Identical torrents across websites are grouped together. Links and statistics are always accurate and up-to-date. Don’t just stare, give it a try!
quote from torrentz.com
How Do I Get The Torrents? Go to torrentz.com and search for what you want in the search field.
Then it will display your search results, I searched for Family Guy. The “Health” of the torrent is just what it is, if the bar is full green the torrent is still active or “Alive” if it is orange or yellow it is “Dieing” and if it is red it is inactive or “Dead”. Try to always go for the torrent with a full green bar and with plenty of seeders and downloaders, the more the better! The seeders and downloaders are the numbers next to the health, the blue are downloaders and the green are seeders. Seeders are people who have the full file downloaded and are letting it upload freely. Leechers are people who only upload while they download and then remove the torrent upon download completion and don’t seed at all.
After you have picked what you want to download click on its filename (I clicked the top one)
It will then display another page showing the files in the torrent, the torrent statistics and the torrent download locations + similar torrents to that torrent down the bottom. Then just pick a download location site and click it (I picked torrentspy)
Scroll down slightly and just click download if you want. I usually scroll down more and read the comments to see if it’s infact a legit file or if it’s what it says it is and is virus and spy ware free. If there are no comments it doesn’t matter. Save the torrent file to whatever location you want.
Chapter 3-Downloading The Files
I will explain how to download the files using µTorrent (I didn’t use the family guy torrent for this part)
Install µTorrent by downloading the installation file and run it. Follow the prompts until finished. Run µTorrent and go to “Options” then select “Preferences” and configure to your own likening.
Then you just need to your torrent file by clicking the “Add Torrent” button and then locating it. Once you have found it click “Open” and then click “Ok”
Now your torrent should start to connect to peers and then download. When it finishes downloading please seed the file until you have to remove it.
Chapter 4-Closing Chapter
-F.A.Q-
-My torrent wont start, why not? There could be many reasons why your torrent wont start, check your firewall and see if your virus protection program is blocking it.
-My torrent is almost finished but it stopped, why? Probably because not enough people are seeding the file.
-Why is my torrent downloading so slow? Check the amount of peers and seeds your are connected to, if it’s a decent amount right click on your torrent, select “Bandwidth Allocation” and then select “High” (not recommended if you are on a non unlimited downloads plan) but otherwise your internet may just be plain slow.
-Ok I tried all that to speed up my torrent but it is still going slow, why? Try a different torrent for the same file, maybe the torrent is “Dead”.
-Im not sure if this torrent is a virus or not, how can I tell? Overall you cant, but check the comments that other people have left, if they say it’s a virus it probably is but it still doesn’t mean it is or isn’t. You will always be taking a chance. So far I have not found a virus in a torrent. All I can really say is check the comments, if there aren’t any look for another torrent with the same file and then check those comments.
This isn’t copy and paste; it has good grammar thanks to word.
Thanks for reading my egg, please feel free to leave a comment and rate. Any further questions/problems? Just instant message me (its on accept from anyone)

Sep 27, 2006 9:32 pm - theres too many eggs on torrents! everyone knows what they are and how they work; becuase you use utorrent ill give you a 3***... and it was a good layout too.
Sep 28, 2006 9:46 pm - very nicely done.... fives and fives.... Ive been using p2p progs since they made it on the underground.... up until very recently I was very happy with them and saw no reason to even fuck with torrents. Recently due to quite a few multimillion dollar lawsuits, multiple p2p progs stopped functioning, and i stopped bothering with it. This got me off my lazy ass and d/l through torrents.
