Black Powder : found in most fireworks

Black powder, also known as gunpowder, which was, invented thousands of years ago by the Chinese has a very important role in pyrotechnics. Most pyrotechnicians will use BP in devices so even if your gonna buy commercial bp ready made it\\’s important and good to know how to make your own at times when cash is low. Please note that whatever you do with this information is your own doing, I do not intend any harm by supplying this info. The below method for making BP is called is the easy method, there is some other methods including the milling method which I have no experience with. The below manufacture tends to result in less quality BP but all the same it still burns and explodes when contained. Materials required for making BP: Potassium nitrate (KNO3), Sulphur, Charcoal, Pure alcohol, Glass beaker, Glass rod (for mixing), Heat source, (Bunsen burner), Gauze, Tripod, Pan, Glass bowl and grinding spoon (wooden. Method: Set up equipment, gauze on tripod, Bunsen under tripod etc. Pour alcohol into the glass beaker until the beaker is half full. Add 75% of potassium nitrate into the beaker. Add 15% charcoal into the beaker. Add 10% sulphur into the beaker. Progress with heating the mixture and keep stirring it until it is a black or deep dark grey colour. Make sure not to over heat the mixture (boil), for obvious reasons. Once everything is mixed up, empty it out into a pan and leave it somewhere in sunlight so that the alcohol can evaporate. If you thin it out well it will be much easier to grind and will dry a lot faster. You are now left with black stuff, grind this in to powder. Use wooden tools rather than metal to grind it because metal can produce friction will spark the BP up resulting in an injury for the grinder. When it is a fine powder it is now ready to use, I find storing it in airtight containers (I use film canasters) is a good idea as BP collects moisture from the air.


Flash Powder

Flash powder is some powerful shit! You will have an instant respect for this stuff once you try it. Extreme caution is encouraged when working with flash powder. Here\\’s how I make flash powder... Here are the things you need when making flash powder... 1. Some thing to crush your potassium perchlorate. I use a meat mallot used to pound meat but you can use a hammer or anything really that is dull and does the job. 2. A re-sealable zip lock baggie. You must use one which has some kind of locking mechanism at the top to keep you from spilling anything. 3. Static Guard laundry spray. You can find this at the local grocery store. 4. A scale, must be accurate. 5. Potasium Perchlorate 6. Aluminum powder. Must be very fine, 600 mesh or greater. I use German Dark. First measure out 70 grams of potasium perchlorate on your scale. Pour this into your zip lock baggie and close. Lay it down so the PP is spread out evenly. If you look closely you\\’ll see that the PP is chunky and isn\\’t too fine. So take your hammer or whatever you use and lightly crush the PP until it is a very fine powder. Now measure out 30 grams of your aluminum powder and then put that into your bag with the PP. Now take your Static Guard and spray the outside of your bag with the two chemicals in it. Spray your entire work area for added protection if you like. Now shake your bag, shake like you have never shaked before. You want to mix the two chemicals throughly. After you are finished you will have 100 grams of damn powderful flash powder. If you want to make a smaller quantity, you can use 7 grams of potasium perchlorate and 3 grams of aluminum powder. This is not the only way to make flash powder, this is how I made it and it works well enough for me!


Smoke Mix

Mix potassium nitrate with powdered sugar in a 6:4 ratio. It can be ignited as a powder and produce smoke or you can melt it and it will be thicker smoke but not last as long. To melt just place the mixture in a glass bowl and place on a hot plate. It will form a liquid an look like peanut butter. before it hardens insert a fuse.


Whistle Mix

Grind potassium perchlorate and sodium benzoate SEPERATLY. Once grinded mix the two together in a 7:3 ratio. This is very sensitive. When it is pushed into a tube and force is used to smash it into the tube using a wooded dowel the same diameter of the inside of the tube it will whistle. If the whistle mix is loose it will burn very fast and if encased it will explode.

M-80

\\"M80\\’s are small salutes (exploding fireworks) originally used to simulate gunfire during military training. They were sold in the U.S until the Child Protection Act banned them in 1966. Originally, they were approximately 1-1/2\\" long cardboard tubes, 9/16\\" in diameter filled with Flash Powder. Several slightly different variations existed by different names (such as the \\"Silver Salute\\" and \\"Ash Can\\"), but in general, all the devices were functionally identical. Below is the procedure used for assembling these devices. Keep in mind that assembling and even possessing such a device is illegal and considered a very serious offense unless you are licensed to do so. It is also worth noting that due to Federal Regulations, Pyrotechnic Suppliers can not even so much as sell you the components to make M-80\\’s. Exploding fireworks have caused more injuries that any other type, mainly resulting from improper use. The explosive force generated can easily remove fingers from the hand or send flying particles into the eye causing permanent blindness. As tempting as it may be to do, never light one of these and throw it. There have been many recorded cases of defective fuse where there was minimal delay, exploding the device in someone\\’s hand. Exploding fireworks are not toys and should only be handled by adults licensed to do so Always set the firework on the ground (with no obstructions around), light fuse and get away.\\"


M-160

The M-160 is identical to the M-80 except that it has twice the wall thickness and is an inch longer. An M-160 case can hold 10 grams of flash powder compared to the M-80\\’s 21/2 grams of standards flash powder. If you decide to make one of these, make a fuse of no less than 3 inches. M-160 tube lenght is 2 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inhces wide.


Quarter Stick

One of the most dangerous fircrackers that was once legally sold is the Quarter Stick. They are called quarter sticks becasue they resemble a quarter stick of dynomite. Although they are nowhere near as powerfull. When handling quarter sticks use great care. If one were to prematurely detonate in your hand you can say goodbye to your hand up your elbow. Be careful with storing them for long periods of time. Some flash powders become very sensitive over a long period of time. Before attempting to manufacture these be aware that it is most likely illegal to do in the country you\\’re in. If you have flash powder and a casing of the correct proportions, building your very own quarter stick will be an easy task. Here are the things you need when making you own quarter sticks... 1. A paper casing with an inside diameter of 3/4\\", 1/8\\" wall thickness, and 3-1/2\\" long. 2. Two endcaps to fit the casing. 3. Four inch fuse. 4. Elmer\\’s Glue. 5. Drill with 1/8\\" bit. 6. Static Guard laundry spray. Glue one of your end plugs to one of the ends of the casing. Take your other end plug and drill a hole in it with your drill and 1/8\\" bit. Take your Static Guard (never leave home without it!) and spray your workplace before proceeding to the next step. Fill the casing 2/3 with flash powder. Glue the end cap onto the open end. Put a dab of glue of the hole you made for the fuse and insert the fuse. Push it in so at least a small amount of fuse goes into the casing. You dont want to push the fuse in too much so you have a longer fuse. Let everything dry and viola!





Polumna

\\"This firecracker is very popular and is a loud, safe cracker. Cut a piece of 60-80lb kraft paper 1\\" wide, and 12\\"long. Then fold on the dotted line as shown in the picture bellow. Fold up again (look bellow), and fold over once more. Tape the side of the paper with scotch tape so that it is held in place. There should now be a pocket that has formed. Stick a piece of good waterproof fuse (about 1 1/4\\" in length) through the corner of the pocket as shown bellow. It should be punched through and then sealed with a dab of hot glue. Then this pocket can be filled with any of the quick-burning fuel-oxidizer mixtures that occur in the form of a fine powder. Anyway, this pocket should be filled with the powder (Make sure there is a little air space for the composition to expand. Only fill the pocket about 4/5 full). Continue folding the cracker up until you run out of paper. Then tape the piece of paper with another piece of scotch tape so that it holds everything together. When folding the polumna be careful of spilling the powder. Then use strong tape and secure all of the corners.\\" X INVENTIONS


CO2 Bomb (COB) (just pressure so it cant be real bomb)

Take a 12 gram Co2 tank and drill the hole a little bit bigger. Fill the Co2 with BP and insert a visco fuse. This throws metal shrapnel so be carefull. I like to tape mine to an spray paint can (make a HUGE fireball). The pic at the top left of my site is a Co2 bomb exploding.


Pressure Bomb (not real bomb)

Muratic acid in a bottle: ­*UNSTABLE * Materials needed: -Muratic acid or liquid plumber, draino, the works, ect.- -Aluminium foil- -Plastic bottle- Fill the bottle 2\\" high with muratic acid Put about 7 marble sized foil balls in the bottle. Put the cap on. Run

He only stated he got them from websites. Not an author or anything. It’s not giving credit. Think about this, you do about 5 years research so that someone can post all your hard work on a website (Not theirs) and not give them individual credit.

Maybe post this on the forum? Because you are indeed trying to take advantage of peoples hard work by putting this egg up, because your trying to get ratings and egg points for your own accreditation.
