Original egg made by Australiano on the 4th of November
(THIS WILL NOT GUIDE YOU STEP BY STEP ON HOW TO BUILD A RAMP, JUST THE BASICS OF BUILDING ONE AND THE TOLLS AND SUPPLIES YOU NEED. THERE WILL BE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE TO SITES THAT GIVE AWAY FREE RAMP PLANS)

Okay, so you’ve decided to build your first ramp? I’m going to help you with the basics and supplies you will need.

Basic supplies
Tools:
    Set square
    Tape measure
    Cordless drill/power drill
    Wood saw/circular saw/jigsaw
    Marking implement

Supplies:
    2x4’s
    Plywood
Drywall screws, long, medium and short ones.
TEK bit to fit your screw head
Sheet metal (if using thicker ply)

There are many different types of ramps, banks, halfpipes, quarterpipes, funboxes, kickers, launch ramps and the list goes on.Your going to have to decide what kind of ramp you want. Make this decision based on the room and storage that’s available at your house.

The basic construction of a ramp
The basic construction of every ramp is very much alike. They all have sides made of plywood with 2x4 struts. The struts are placed evenly between the ramp.

There are a few ways of putting the plywood on your ramp. If you are using sheet metal at the bottom, and aren’t bending or have a few people to help you bend it, use thick wood. If you aren’t using sheet metal, and have lots of sheets of thin plywood, then do about 3 layers. The first 2 layers going to the end of the ramp, and the 3rd layer going over a bit, so there isn’t a bump when you ride up it.

Preparation
Okay. Before you start your going to have to do a few things. Find a good, open space to start building. Some people use their driveway, so the sawdust will blow away and you don’t need to clean up, but I like to use my shed because if I ever need something in a hurry, I can always reach over and get it.

First thing to do now is to gather up all your materials and tools. Put them in a spot together. Now start marking out.
It is easier to have a ramp that is 2, 4, 6 or 8ft wide because the 2x4’s come in 8ft lengths. Having it 4ft you can just do one cut in the middle and your done.

Remember, there is no ideal length/width/height, just go with how you want it to be.

Once you have marked out, it is time to start. The first thing your going to want to do is get one of your side bits. Screw the struts into the side bit (A little hint, is before screwing dip the screw in a bit of dish washing liquid. This will slide in easier and hold the same, if not better.)

Once you have screwed the struts into one side bit, do the same with the other side. Lay your plywood over the top of the struts and screw that in. If your using sheet metal, now is the time to cut it to size. Ideal width is about 150-180mm. The length is obviously how long your ramp is.

That is your ramp done! Have fun skating/scootering/bmxing on your ramp.
