I decided to make a guitar playing egg because I couldn’t find any good ones. These simple steps should give you an excellent start on guitar playing.
1.Getting a Guitar
2.How to read tabs
3.Standard Tuning
4.Amplification
5.Simple Tunes
6.Advanced Tunes
1. Alright so step one, getting a guitar. Shouldn’t be hard, you can get a decent guitar at around $150.00, I suggest at a music store, they tend to be the best sounding. Ebay works too, just as long as they have pictures.
The number indicates the fret in which to hold your finger on, and pluck the string written, most frets are marked with a small white dot. The letters indicate the name of the string. E is the lowest and e is the highest. The spaces between the numbers can indicate the speed of the song. Tabs can be found on the web for almost every song.
3.Standard Tuning
People tend to use electric tuners for this, they cost around $10.00, I don’t have one. The way I tune my guitar is playing tunes I play often, like Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven for example, I’ll keep playing it and tuning it until it sounds exactly right, but if your a beginner, I suggest the tuner.
4.Amplification
If your guitar is electric, It’s obvious your going to want to get one of these, your can get a decent one for around $120.00. Amplifiers have a number of different modes, including distortion, overdrive, and chorus. Your want all your dials set to the middle if you want a good sound, but if you want to fiddle with the dials go ahead. And of course, your goin to need a patchcord, which connects the amplifier and your guitar together. These will cost around $10.00.
5.Simple Tunes
Here’s some good tunes to start with, as I mentioned above play them slowly to begin with and make your way up until they are in time, accuracy is more important than speed.
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple. I would start with not doing the double picking and work your way up to it.
I would add more songs, but they screw up when they’re put on here.
Some other beginner songs would be. AC/DC - Back in Black. Simpsons Theme Song. Paint it Black - Rolling Stones. Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne.
6.Advanced Tunes
As I mentioned above, I would list them in the egg, but they screw up.
Some Advanced songs would be. Stairway to Heaven, Sweet Child O’ Mine. Knocking on Heavens Door. Nothing Else Matters. Over the Hills and Far Away. Axel F. Black Dog. Sweet Home Alabama. Hotel California....the list goes on, these are just some of my personal favourites.
If you want to learn some of the songs listed here and above, just search them on google, for example. Stairway to Heaven Guitar Tab. There will be dozens of accurate tabs.
Well that concludes my guide on how to get started on playing guitar. Please vote, and have fun with it!

Well this one isnt very good either the title of this should be something like "introduction to guitar" not basic playing. You cant learn how to play guitar reading tab you have to have a basic understanding of music (chords, scales).A so if you dont know the different picking techniques you wont get anywhere.
Nov 06, 2006 2:33 am - Thats gud man,I didnt learn anything from this, but still 5* for da effoort
Nov 06, 2006 6:50 am - 5 stars. this makes it easier. The iron man tab is as follows on the A string: 3,6,6,8,8,11,10,11,10,11, 0,6,6,8,8 (in standard tuning).
Nov 06, 2006 10:03 am - Anyone who attempted to show off their skills failed. All the tabs are wrong. Tony Iommi uses power chords, what you tabbed out was a shitty attempt at a base riff to play behind the guitars.
These tab eggs are pretty useless. Most people who play guitar are visual learners. If you’re going to teach how to read tab, take pictures of your fingers on the frets, one at a time just so people will be clear on how to actually play.
I’m going to give this egg a 0 until you either learn more music theory or actually decide to put the time in to make this a quality egg on overall guitaring.
Nov 06, 2006 4:58 pm - Sheesh, it doesn’t look like anyone can really win with guitar playing eggs. A beggining guitarist does not need to have mastered the Phrygian Mode, and if someone wants to play a song to the sound and not "correctly" by all means. Playing a song simply for the enjoyment of the music is a good way to keep someone motivated to play.
Btw, I meant no offense at my previous comment, I was just tipped off because it took me months to time RR’s fills correctly.
Nov 07, 2006 10:52 am - well you can’t learn about something like an instrument if you don’t actually try it out with someone who knows how to do it, reading is alright but learning is better :D 4*
Nov 11, 2006 12:54 am - dude yall are all wrong Iron Man goes...

Nov 11, 2006 7:39 am - 5 *s Good if youve never picked up a guitar before but then you should get deper into tablature and point out tab legends and how to mute hammer and slide.
Dec 09, 2006 6:36 pm - I want to thank you, your egg is great. I was getting pissed cause I’m having to teach myself and I couldn’t find anything easy. found your egg after 6/7 months of not touching my guitar and picked it up in about ten minutes I was having fun and actually playing the song... I 5* your egg and profile. please make a follow up.
Jun 16, 2007 8:42 pm - there are alot of diffant ways to play iron man.
the two i know are:
3,6,6,8,8,12,11,12,1 ,12,6,6,8,8.
&
-5-5--8-8--10-9-10-9-10-- -5-8-8
-7
Yes the tabs are off, but if you are a beginner, just playing a tune, whether it’s right or wrong is a start.
I know plenty of songs I learned just by ear, and the tabs if I were to write them down would be off by a long shot. But they still started me off playin’ guitar.
Feb 22, 2008 7:01 am - oh damn ohh, i guess i was right. i just now saw the caption. to be honest Nothing else matters is a REALLY easy song. you don’t even need to use the fret board for the intro.
