In this egg i will explain to you about what skimboarding is and some of the tricks that you can do on skimboards.
What is skimboarding?
Skimboarding is a sport that has been around for a while now but has recently gotten more popular throughout the years. Skimboarding is kind of alot like surfing but usually done in alot shallow water. Although it can be done on waves and rails which i will talk a bit more about later.
Items needed for skimboarding
- A beach, Shallow river or something alike. Even a flooded park will be fine
- A skimboard.
skimboards can vary in shape and size, some may be better for spins while others may be better to ride waves.
Getting started
Once you have your skimboard head down to the beach or river or whatever you have decided to ride in.
To get your run up going stand in about 1 inch or less of water. It may be easier to just stand and throw your board down and jump on but you will not get up as much speed as running and throwing it. As you have thrown your board down (whichever way you have decided) run and jump on to it facing either side, left-goofy and right-regular. Keep your balance and ride until you have stopped.
Wave riding
This one is fairly self explnitary. Once you have mastered riding on flat surfaces you may like to try riding waves. To ride waves you can either head out at a wave on a 45 degree angle or straight at out at the wave just whichever you find easier. To ride waves you need speed, lots of speed! speed is extremely important when riding waves. As you start heading towards your wave make sure you are going fast enough and are on your board correctly. As you approach it bend your knees a little to help if there any any small breaks in the waves. As you hit the lip of the wave slam the tail down and try and lift the front of the board up with your front foot, which is prity much the same as an ollie.
Rails
Rails are fairly new to skimboarding. As again fairly self explanitary. Rails are used for more advanced skimboarders most of the time. All they are are just rails made out of pvc pipe stuck on a box with an upramp so that you can slide up them and then off. Although some rails have no upramp and are needed to be ollied onto.
Tricks
Tricks are probably what makes skimboarding so fun.
There are many different tricks you can do on skimboards, such as spins from 180’s upto 1080’s or even more. Shove-its and Pop-Shove its with different amounts of spin. Flips and carves off waves and different kinds of grinds on rails.
