OK here we go this is what you will need:
~empty co2 canister(12 gram)
~R candy (recrystalized potassium nitrate and sugar)
~about 2 marble sized(volume)amount of black powder, flash powder, or smokeless powder.
~alluminum foil
~6inches of fuse
~hot glue gun(regular glue if using flash powder)
~hack saw
~pvc pipe that the co2 cartridge will fit into
~block of clay
~pair of pliers
Step One
OK now you are ready to make the rocket, first you will have to obtain R candy which can be made from sugar, potassium nitrate,corn syrup, and water. Here is a link to a site that will give you step by step instructions on how to make it: [url=http://www.jamesyawn.com/rcandy/index.htm]
I usually make the r candy and while it is cooking make everything else.
Step two
Making the shell:
To make the shell you will need the co2 canister and the hack saw. Cut about 3/7 of an inch from the butt of the canister all the way off. It should look like this:

REmoving the cap:
To remove the cap (the cap is the thing at the end of the nipple that you puncture to release the co2)you take the pair of pliers and pinch the side of the cap and peel it off using a forward rolling motion(like peeling a bannana). Your finished canister should look like this:

Making the report:
To make the report all you need to do is place the explosive powder in 1 layer of foil about 4x4 inches square, place a fuse in the center of the powder and wrap it up nice and tight like so:

Adding propellent:
Take the R candy you made and push about a half ping pong ball amount of it down the top of the part you cut out of the co2 canister. Keep adding more untile it is filled up about this far(top of the tape) then quickley push 4 inches of fuse into the nipple part of the canister unlile its half an inch stuck into the r candy.
Step 6
adding report:
You have to do this quickly before the r candy hardens. Take your foil with powder and fuse ball thingy and press it fuse side down into the top end of the rocket(make sure the fuse sticks into the r candy).
Step 7
Glue around the eddges of the canister where the foil and metal tutch so it wont fall out but make sure you dont cover the top with glue.
Now your ready to go. Lite it and drop it down a pvc pipe and get away.
Trouble shooting:
The number one problem with this is blowouts which is where the top of the rocket blows off and the rocket propellant just lobs out the top and smokes on the ground. The way to fix this is put some apoxy between the flash bomb and the propellant, or just omit the flash bomb all together and fill the top in with apoxy(its still way cool).
another problem is it getting stuck in the pvc pipe. If this happens it will either explode the pvc or just flash out the top. If this happens just get a slightly wider pipe or make the foil on top narrower.

Dec 05, 2006 4:47 pm - nice. this is similar to my egg, but still quite original with the report thing. 5*. also for the rocket you can use matchhead powder by itself and for the report use matchhead powder mixed with striker powder from home brand matches. this is ideal for aussies who cant get black powder and flash powder
Dec 05, 2006 5:29 pm - i will post a video as soon as i can but that wont be till at least this saturday because i cant make this stuff at home and i left my fuse at my friends. so check in on saturday nite or sunday and i will have one with a report and one without. Thanks
Dec 05, 2006 5:31 pm - and to negroonfire: if you read the r candy making link it will tell you its plyable like clay so what i did is just make it into a ball then reheat it at 200 degrees F and rolled it into a snake shape and pushed it in the top.
