Before I start, I advise anyone intending to read this to read the ENTIRE thing for safety awareness reasons.

Ok, this egg will tell you how to make an easy do-it-yourself chemical/explosive protection suit, which I have made plans for with my own creative mind.

1. Vital area protection, Layer one: The first thing you want to be 110% sure about is that you have your vital organs/areas on your body protected. To protect your Heart, chest, intestines, spinal cord, etc, you will need to first put on a long or short sleeve cotton t-shirt. make sure it is not too tight, but not too loose either. Then, you will want to put on a hoody (Thick, not the thin kind.) Unlike the t shirt, you will need to keep the hoody loose, without tucking it in to your pants, or tightening the hood strings. This is done to ensure that if and when debris impacts the hoody, the loose, hanging setup will absorb the impact better than being tight against your skin. Now, take a very good quality down vest, and place this over the hoody. This will absorb chemicals slowly if you get splattered, making it easy to quickly unzip it and throw it aside. It will also aid in protection against burns, debris injury, and, most importantly, pressure shockwaves from an explosion.

2. Torso and leg protection: This part is no less important than part one. The main thing before choosing clothing for this area of the body, is to know what materials cause you to itch or be irritated. The reason for this is, lets say your handling a pressure sensitive explosive... You start developing an itch around the crotch area, which can at times become very hard to bare. We do not want to be moving our hands toward an itch while carrying dangerous substances. Now, after finding out what material irritates you the least, you will need to (In this order) put on sport/basketball shorts, then work grade denim/kaki pants, and finally winter sweatpants(cotton). This will not only protect you the same way the upper body setup will, but it will also protect your kidneys, bladder, vital arteries in your crotch area, genitals, penis, and other body parts important to sustain life. Make sure everything is neatly worn, with no fold-ups in your pants or shorts. make sure ALL zippers, buttons, velcro, etc, are free from snags, knots, or anything that will prevent a quick-release during an emergency situation.

3. Face: This is the easiest part. First, find a plastic welding mask, the kind that has only a 100% see thru faceshield. now, find a gasmask used for protection against paints, lacquers, solvents, and other chemical compounds. Make sure the carbon filter cartridges are new, fairly undepleted, and free from ANY defects. Fit the mask so that you have a complete seal around your nose and mouth, without any gaps from head movement. Do not tighten it to the point that it can not be quick released in an emergency. put the face shield over your head after you have the mask on. make sure the face shield protects a little more than 180 degrees around the front of your face, and protects anything from entering into the path of your neck or higher. Now, put up your hood, making sure that it covers the sides of your neck, goes past your ears and face, and overs your head. Now, find welding gloves (With long sleeve), and put them on. Your done.

Tips: For the vest, try to get one with a thick turtle-neck setup. this will add more protection around your neck and upper body.

If possible, utizile as high power of a fan as you can, sucking air AWAY from you. The gasmask will only help slow down, not restrict, most chemical reaction gases from entering your body.

WARNING: THIS SUIT WILL N O T PROTECT YOU FROM ANY HIGH-EXPLOSIVE BLASTS AT CLOSE RANGE (TNT, NITROGLYCERIN, GRENADE BLASTS, THERMITE GRENADES, POTASSIUM/SODIUM REACTIONS, C4, NAPALM, OR HIGH BASE/HIGH ACIDS).

ALWAYS check for unprotected areas which need to be patched up.

STAY SAFE.

Clegg, please read the fine print- this is not intended for High Explosives, this is just for debris protection from distant explosions, and pressure protection from small close by explosions, as well as chemical burn provention. this is not in any way a grade A high explosive, close-contact ballistics suit.

I wouldn’t trust a homemade suit for any kind of protection. I’ll vote tomorrow when the pics are up though
