Well, i have made 2 eggs about legal graffiti just using a pen and pencil! But now i will move onto the illegal part..The fun part if you ask me! The part which deals you a massive adrenaline rush :D (And loadsa street cred) lol :P
Well 1st off you should have practised sketching the word that you are going to write, and be confident at writing that word!
Here are the different types of ’getting up’.
Handstyles are just a quick way to get up, using pen or spray. Here is an example of my handstyle.
A ’throw-up’ or a ’throwie’ is somthing really quick, maybe slightly filled in or just left empty. Throws arent as respected as dubs but still get your name out, and if you can get a dub in the right place then you are well on your way to getting up! Here are 2 examples of my throwies.
A ’dub’ is what you would do to get your name up, they are respectable but quick! An example of a dub would be a simple bubble letter word filled in quickly with slight detail. Here are 2 pictures of dubs i have done.
Pieces are the most well respected types of graffiti, a piece is a detailed piece of graffiti, fully coloured, and stylishly done! Since i dont have any pictures of my pieces, i will post a pic of someone elses! I have posted Okers piece because he is an all europe rudeboy! And if i ever meet him along my days i would probably cum in his ear!
When you go writing on the streets it is called ’bombing’, and when you go out to do a piece its called ’piecing’.
When you are doing a piece you should take a sketch woth you to copy from, or refer to!
When you go out dont dress TOO suspiciously! Wear a balaclava and have a hood or a hat and dress unsmart! But dont wear clothes or bags that you have tagged!
You will need graffiti spray paint to go bombing (if you want to make it a good night) with graffiti caps for the cans.
Caps are the tip of the spray can that you press down on to make the spray come out, certain caps spray thin lines for oulines and tags or detail, and some spray fat lines to fill in etc. Some caps also have different pressures, so you can take your time without it dripping, or you could gt a high pressure cap where you have to be fast but more paint comes out!
Never go bombing with a big group of people, always stick to just yourself, or 1 or 2 other people. I like to go out with 1 or 2 other writers as it makes me feel more secure for some reason, and if you get caught your not on your own, which makes me feel better somehow!
Never stick around! Do a piece, or bomb the place..Then get outta there!! You cant afford to wait around when you dont need to be there! You never know when police or somebody else are gonna come walking round the corner!
A toy is someone that dosent know much about graffiti, or goes out bombing with a S**T style and dosent really know what he/she’s doing! If you suck and you know it, dont bomb yet! practise before hitting the streets! Find a place where you can practise where nobody can see you, i like to practise under a tunnel in my town before i hit the streets every now and again!
Never bomb peoples cars, houses, boats (unless its a ferry or somthing), house windows etc..This is seen as toyish and disrespectful! Remember we are trying to get the point across that graffiti can be art! Not just vandalism!
Never tell anyone your going bombing, and never tell anyone that you dont trust what you write. I have seen cases where writers have had up to £2000 put on thier head! In other words, if you live in a place where graffiti is unheard of, the council or whatever may pay someone who gives in your name!
The best places to bomb:
The best places to bomb are called ’hotspots’ and if you live in a place where graffiti is common, people will be litterally fighting for these spots. These spots are things like the follwing, where everyone will see them!
Trains!! But be very very careful! Graffiti artist have DIED on the tracks..
On the top of roofs! Find a way to the top of the roof of a shop or a block of flats, these are mad places to write!
Work vans are good!! I hit up a work van this saturday just gone! SIK!
Bus stops, shop shutters, phone boxes, all the similar are good too!
Be creative and try to get to the most in-accessable places! You wanna make people think, ’omg how did he get up there!!?’
Thats about all i can say! If you have anny questions at all about graffiti feel free to ask me here! I hope this helped people a bit!
Dec 13, 2006 3:18 pm - Dude graffitis all good till you get caught.. i got nacked for holding paint and i might have to do community service and shit.. but decent egg 3*s, because your toy but..
Dec 15, 2006 2:33 am - Yeah, maybe. I don’t like graffit, I think it’s mindless and cowardly in a way. But meh! You guys like it and, I’ll go for the quality of the egg, not whats in it. 5* But don’t do it on work vans, well, maybe I guess if it’s a big company like BT, because my dad has a work van, and he has to pay for it.
Jan 21, 2007 10:39 am - Your "dubs" seem like throw ups to me. And you throw ups look make the wall look worse than it originally did. But keep practising you will get better, but it’ll take time. I’ve seen taggers like Boney and Skata in London over the past year, and there styles have really evolved.
Jul 10, 2007 9:36 pm - this may seem like a joke question. but its not lol. how the hell do u use spray paint, every time i do its either so far away that it just looks strange and i cant do anything with it or its so close that it drips
Jan 29, 2008 11:15 am - great egg. and to the dude who wanted to know how to post pictures:
you have to upload them to a site lik e photo bucket first. then use that html code.
