First of all, I know that tons of people have already posted tattoo gun instructions on here, but i think they all suck compared to this one. Personal opinion. This gun will take some work but will end up pretty nice. I WILL POST PICS WHEN MY CAMERA WORKS! sorry for the wait.
This is what you will be making
You will need:
-any normal BIC pen (the white ones)
-some kind of motor(i used a 9 volt motor from the store)
-a plastic toothbrush or a spoon
-sewing needle
-battery
-a wire that is not too hard but not too soft...something liek a guitar string
-electrical switch
-that black electrical tape
-strong glue. i recomend the stuffyou use for models, or krazyGlue or sumthin (glue gun will NOT work)
-drill
-soldering iron
-pliers
-an itty bitty screw
-small coin(like a dime)
1st:
You will need to take the motor and wire it to the switch and the battery so that the on and off which will work and the motor start to spin. This will power your needle.
2nd:
For the toothbush: cut off the toothbrush head(part with bristles) and heat up part of it to bend it like a seven. so about one third is bent and it is a little smaller than a 90 degree angle. Attach the motor to the top of the "seven" with the motors shaft facing towards the bend. Add some glue and screw the motor to the toothbrush. If you want it to look good then wrap it TIGHTLY with tape.
For the spoon: almost the same as the toothbrush. Break the scoopy part off of the spoon and bend it into a seven. After that, attach the motor the same way, jus without the screw.
3rd:
Drill a hole in the coin and put it on the shaft of the motor. you might need to mess around with the drill bit size to figue out which will fit best. It needs to be tight, so you might have to force it on somehow. After that drill another hole in the coin between the center and the side. Make a small 90 degree angle in the wire and put it into that hole and solder it there.
4th:
Tape the pen tube to the long side of the spoon/toothbrush with lots of tape and put the wire through it. The wire should be a little bit longer than the pen tube. After that, file the end of the wire down so that its like a needle, or you can solder the needle to the wire. you cant get it too sharp.
After that, your gun is complete!
Ink types:
Ash - Burn some paper and mix with water. Experiment different amounts to make the thickness you want. Non-toxic. I prefer this method
India Ink - You can buy this the at the store and its used in henna tattoo kits. This is non-toxic and works pretty well.
Pen/marker Ink - Not reccomended. Usually works but there are many risks, like blood poisoning and sometimes the black inks turn out wrong colors, like gray and blue.
Giving the tattoo:
I prefer to draw the tattoo down wit a wax pencil before i do it. It also helps to go over it more than once when you give your tattoo. Dont wipe off the extra ink when you finish. Wait for it too dry for about an hour. Dont pick at the black scabs when its healing...it will fade your fianl result.

Dec 15, 2006 5:34 pm - 5* but why dont you just go to a tattoo shop? wouldnt that be better since it would be done proffesionaly and with the correct paint? i dont know anything bout tattoos but i think that would be easier. Im prob. wrong anyways but 5*
Dec 15, 2006 6:09 pm - gave you a 5* but ment to give you four stars because one thing: WHAT ABOUT THE MOTHERFUCKING AUTOCLAVE?!! dude, it only takes one mishap and if you dont use an autoclave you could get serious infections, sometimes fatal. but, this is a great egg otherwise. I have EVERYTHING needed to make it. As for the adjustment of the needle, just make it so it only enters about a little less than a half CM into thew skin, and since it is home made, do NOT under any circumstances use it near any main arteries. anything gets loose, and you have a hole in your artery, then your FUXERD!
Dec 16, 2006 12:59 am - here are pics of tattoos on my hand and have been healed for about 1.5 months. the redness is actually from a pink marker from a friend and isnt from the tattoo.
