Last weekend I went tramping with the Venturers in the Tararuas. The weather was meant to be good up on the tops, but on the second day all there was was cloud...no sun at all...and then it snowed...a lot..and this is summer in New Zealand.
Luckily we were staying in huts, which was pretty damn lucky.
So most of what comes now will be photos and captions, and the captions for each photo are below each photo so here we go....
The Photos
This is Powell Hut, the hut we stayed in on the first night, and my friend David trying to sleep.Rather a shitty photo, like the next couple, because I could not be fucked taking my camera out of the plastic bag it was in to keep it dry.
This is the same hut, looking across at the other bunks and the retards that are on them.
The hut again, and the place to hang up the soaked coats.
This is looking out the hut window down the hill on the morning of the second day, and it had snowed, for those who can’t see that.
And again.
Again.
A really shit photo of a really shit snowman.
Photo from the veranda of the hut, looking down into the clouds.Last of the shitty photos....hopefully.
David, tramping in the snow, and looking retarded against a backdrop of cloud.
Snow on a cliff.
A sudden drop, shrouded in snow.
I think you are starting to get it....it’s SNOW.
A snowy signpost, and David with his retarded looks, plus a guy called Ben, who has no social skills as he has been home schooled for the past 8 years.
This is the trig stations at the very top of Mount Holdsworth. It was extremely windy up there as you can see from the formation of the ice.
Same trig station, still cold.
Looking down into the Waiarapa, and you can finally see the snowline.
The valley again, and the snowline, again.
More snow and hills, and further on there is this same picture again, but showing where we went, which was along the ridgelines.
Once again looking down into the valley.
Straight back along the ridgeline from whence we came.
My friend Phillip, and the small knoll we will soon be tramping past. Down below is Jumbo Hut.
I think that it should be overly obvious by now that this is snow.
You are actually reading these? Well, this is....snow.
This is coming down the hill...not a great photo, I am told.
One last time, this is David, and apparently he is lifting his hand up to wave....whatever.
Where We Went
These photos were taken from different places, but if you ignore the hills in the way they almost join up. So you can sort of see where we went.

Goodbye.

Dec 18, 2006 4:56 am - heh, thanx...the venturers are pretty damn gay, but its the easiest way to go tramping and skiing etc, and when something liek this comes up its definitly worth it.
Plus 1 entire week of skiing for only NZ$100 is pretty damn good
