Original egg made by Australiano on the 18th December
Okay. So you roll your own tubes for fireworks/crackers etc but they always telescope at the ends and theres really only about a cm or 2 left of tube once you’ve cleaned it up? Here is a device to help you roll your tubes straight, every time and it is practically effortless. This design is simple and i made it up as I went.
What you need:
[list]Ruler
Object that you roll your tube around(Pencil, in my case)
Tape
Cardboard
Scissors and knife(scissors aren’t necessary but I used both)
Glue(not pictured)
Compass and pencil(not pictured)
Step 1
Put your object down on your cardboard. trace around the outside.
Step 2
Using your ruler, Measure the inside diameter of the circle you drew.
Step 3
Using your uber 1337 skills add about 1cm to that
Step 4
Now using your trusty compass equipped with pencil, set your compass to your answer. In my case it is 1.8cm.
Step 5
Put the pricky part of your compass into the centre of the small circle, Draw around it. You should have your inner circle, and a circle 1cm bigger around it.
Step 6
Using your knife cut on the inside of the small circle. Make sure your item (pencil) fits inside the hole.(No pun intended)
Step 7
Cut along the line for the outside circle. For this step I used scissors. Mine IS cut out, i just stuck it up with tape to take the pic.
Step 8
Now using your ruler, Measure roughly 1 or 2 mm longer then the length you want your tubes to be. In my case I want my tubes to be 3.5cm long.
Step 9
If the outside surface of your item is shiny, like mine is; scratch the shiny stuff off using the knife, about 0.5cm either side. The glue will not stick to a shiny surface so we are exposing it to the wooden surface.
Step 10
Put a line of glue around the whole item.
Step 11
Push the cardboard ring onto the glue. Make sure the distance between the end of your item and the cardboard(side closest to end) is the same length you want your tubes to be.
Step 12
Put a bit of glue going around the edges between the card and pencil to secure it. Leave it on something with the cardboard hanging off the edge to dry overnight. Put a piece of paper underneath it so if any glue drips it wont wreck your furniture.
Step 13
Alright I have no pic for this step but once it has dried, wrap a few layers of tape on the side of the cardboard that isn’t nearest the end of your object.
That is the end of my egg, I hope you use this if you make tubes and want them straight. |
