Duct Tape "Magic" Wallet
In lew of the recent success of a duct tape wallet egg, I’ve decided to post this guide to creating a "magic" wallet out of duct tape. Please don’t downrate either because of the recently posted duct tape wallet egg (mine’s magic!) or because you believe I copied and pasted. This is an my idea and just because my egg contains a hint of literacy does not mean I copied and pasted.
The materials needed for making the wallet itself are as follows: - Duct tape
- Scissors
- A sheet of cardboard with a surface area containing dimensions of at least 6 inches by 9 inches.
- A ruler
- A pencil
The procedure for making the wallet is as follows:
- Step one: Draw and cut out two rectangles on your sheet of cardboard, each meassuring 3 inches by 4 1/2 inches.
- Step two: Wrap each piece of cardboard in one or two layers of duct tape.
You should be left with this:
- Step three: Measure two pieces of duct tape about 4 1/2-5 inches (they don’t have to be exact, but the ones shown in the picture are too short).
- Step four: Fold each of the pieces in thirds, so that they each become a thin, flat, non-sticky piece of folded tape.
- Step five: Lay one of your pieces of cardboard wrapped in duct tape over the two pieces of folded tape. The pieces of folded tape should be about 1/2 inch from the end of the piece of cardboard. After laying it across, fold down the tops of the pieces of folded duct tape and tape them to the cardboard. If you want, you may reinforce the locations of the pieces of folded tape by taping them down a few more times (I did).
- Step six: Repeat steps three and four, although using 5 1/2 inch strands of duct tape. After doing so fold them across eachother in the shape of an X.
Step seven: Lay the piece of cardboard over the X. Fold the ends of the X against the cardboard and tape them down. Make sure you tape the ends to the opposite side of the cardboard that you taped the other ends to (I know that’s hard to follow, so just look at the picture).
The following is what it should look like turned over: (the scissors are there to hold the strands down, they were being naughty and lifting themselves up into the air)
Step eight: Now, flip the piece of cardboard over (so that it looks like the one in the above picture) and lay the other piece of cardboard on top of it, making sure the X stays crossed.
step nine: Fold the remaining ends of the pieces of folded duct tape against the top piece of cardboard and tape them there.
Voila! You are finished! Here is a video of the wallet working in action:
Modifications
The first modification is a belt strap.
The materials needed for making the belt strap are as follows: - Duct tape
- Scissors
- A ruler
- Your wallet
The procedure for making the belt strap is as follows:
- Step one: Measure two pieces of duct tape. The first should be a little bit less than 3 inches long, and the second should be a little bit smaller than the first, I recommend about 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 inches long.
- Step two: Lay the smaller piece, sticky side down, across the larger piece, sticky side up. Try to center it as much as possible, both vertically and horizontally.
- Step three: Press the piece firmly against the wallet. Make sure it is not completely flat, or else it will be too hard to get your belt in, you want the gap in the center of the belt strap to be raised minimally.
The second modification is an identifaction card holder.
The materials needed for making the belt strap are as follows: - Duct tape
- Scissors
- A ruler
- Your wallet
- A flexible sheet of clear plastic (I used a zip-lock baggie)
The procedure for making the identification card holder is as follows:
- Step one: Measure and cut out a sheet of plastic that is about 2 1/4 inches by 3 1/2 inches.
- Step two: Cut out several thin strips of duct tape. I used four that were as long as the duct tape is wide, and two that were one of those cut in half (if that’s too confusing, look at the picture :)).
- Step three: Using your thin strips of tape, tape down the sheet of plastic on all sides excluding the top.
Jan 02, 2007 2:46 pm - And what is the purpose of haveing a duct tape wallet, besides the fact that you can say you made a wallet out of duct tape? And im serious here, give me a good answer, and ill rate 5.
Jan 02, 2007 3:28 pm - lol wow the rating was a bit poor and I wanna see an egg like this go to the directory just for the shittyness its not a bad thing but its also not a good thing but Ill post a link on how to make a wallet from underwear
Jan 09, 2007 7:36 pm - You guys have to understand, this isn’t a "magic" wallet wrapped with foil so you can steal shit with it. It’s quite unfair that you’re raiting down for that reason. It’s one of those magic wallets most Americans have probably seen on television, wherein you can just place the money in the wallet, close it, open it again, and it’s tied down! Like magic! Understand? I’ve always wanted one/to know how to make one and I just thought you guys might, too. I guess I was wrong though... :(
Jan 09, 2007 7:38 pm - Oh, and one last thing. In response to everyone’s comment, where the hell has this been done? I’m one of the minuscule amount of people on this site that search the directory before posting an egg, and this is not here! I’m guessing anyone that said that just assumed it was a regular duct tape wallet, which it is not.
