Hey there, in this egg I’m going to show you how to make a cherry bomb, I know there are loads of cherry bomb eggs out there, but their either:
Not like this one
No pictures or video
Written as if they where two
Here is a video of the cherry bomb, it’s the exact one you see in this egg. Video
Now to get started.
Materials:
Casing - Ping Pong balls work well, I was lucky enough to find a novelty cherry that was hollow!
Sparkler - I only used one, but have some spare if your fuse fails
Caps - I used about 11 rounds (8 caps per round)
Matches - I used about 35
Match boxes - I used about 6
Tools:
Wire cutters - To cut the sparkler
Something sharp - To remove the cap powder (like a pin)
Pliers - To remove the match powder
Scalpel - Remove the match box strike pad (forgot to add to pic)
Method:
First we need to know how much of each we need; I used a ratio of about 3 match heads, and one strike pad per round of caps (8 caps).
Here we go
To remove the powder from the caps, poke your sharp pin like object through the back of the caps. (If you push too hard it explodes, pretty scary but not to dangerous unless you do it over a whole pile of the powder)
When you’ve done one round it should look like this, the white things are just paper so remove them.
Now to scrape all the stuff off the side of the matchbox, just scrape it with the scalpel, you should end up with a little bit of fine browny/black powder.
Now for the match heads, take a match between the pliers, apply a little pressure and twist the match, the head should just fall off. Of course if you have found another method that works best for you, feel free use it.
This is the end product, remember this is just for the first round of caps, so you will end up with around ten times this much.
Cut the sparkler for a fuse, make sure that it doesn’t flake too much (just cut it, get rid of the flakes and cut it again) I cut mine to about 5 cm.
Preparing to casing:
Make a hole in the casing big enough to get your powder in, but not to big or it will be too hard to plug up. If you’re using a ping pong ball I suggest you coat it in a couple layers of nail polish to harden it and create a louder bang.
Fill up your casing with the powder, do it gently as it is friction sensitive. Insert the fuse then push some paper or cotton wool in to plug up the hole. DONE!!
I am not responsible for anyone that tries this. I am just informing you.
