Well it’s John back with my second Photoshop egg. In this egg i will be discussing the vanishing tool, what it is use for, and i’ll give you an example of how you can use it in everyday photoshop activities.
NOTE: I realize that a very similar egg has been done before. But if you look a little closer, the other egg HERE is intended to assist Photoshop CS2 users. Mine is for CS3. The reason this is different, is CS3 has added more features and i want to help the new users out.
Now on with the egg. You may be wondering, "What is Vanishing Point?" Well vanishing point is a nifty little tool used to make pictures appear more realistic. In my small tutorial, my example is placing a picture over a billboard. If i simply just place a picture over another in photoshop it just won’t look good. This is where Vanishing point comes in.
STEP 1. Open a new document and make it to the size you desire.
STEP 2. Find the picture you want and drag it into your document.
STEP 3. Click Filter/Vanishing Point
STEP 4. If not already selected, click SELECT PLANE TOOL in the upper left hand corner of the window.
STEP 5. Click the corner of the billboard and begin to drag it to the next. A line should be following the cursor. Make a precise box around the billboard.
STEP 6. Once you have made your box you can click TRANSFORM to move the plane and adjust it.
STEP 7. Drag the picture you would like to place over the billboard and click IMAGE/RESIZE IMAGE then make the image the rough size of the billboard.
STEP 8. Copy the entire image.
STEP 9. Go back to your image with the billboard and click FILTER/VANISHING POINT paste the picture you copied into it.
STEP 10. With the picture still selected move the picture into the plane on the billboard. You can then adjust the size as seen in this video below. Just click it to get it to play.
Once you are all done the finished project should look similar to this.
I hope this has opened up a new area of exploration in photoshop for you.
