Alright, to all you peoples who wanted to record and share your mad guitar skills I’ve got a cheap solution for you. This would be for the computer, btw, so you need a computer with a Line In port. Not only that, but you need a few other things.
First off, and most importantly, A guitar:
Second, you need some kind of pre-amp or interface. Stomp Boxes work really well, as do multi affects, amp line outs, etc.
Third, you need the following cables. A standard instrument cable and a Male-Male 1/8" audio cable. Thats the size of standard headphones, computer speakers, etc. But for this to work, both ends have to be the same.
Fourth, you need a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.
And lastly, you’ll need recording software. Audacity is free, so let us use that. Download it here
I suggest the older release, and downloads for mac or windows. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Now just fallow these Steps.
Step one, plug in the 1/8" male-male cable into the Line In port of your computer. You can plug it into the microphone port, but then you won’t here what your playing over your computer’s speakers/headphones.
Step two, plug the other end of the 1/8" cable into the adapter.
Step three, plug the adapter into the OUT of your stompbox or multi-affects or amp line out.
Step four, plug your instrument into the In. Look Like Dis:
Step five, open audacity. Check for two things. Recording Volume and make sure that it is set to Line In, unless you used the microphone port.
Press Record, and play. Press stop to stop recording. Audacity is a very simple audio recording program. If you want to export as an MP3, on the site there is a file called LAME. save it and have audacity search for it, then you can export as MP3.
Jan 30, 2007 12:10 am - Thats deffinatly a BIG 5* and FAVZ from me, man, simple yet effective... We need more eggs like dis! (*hint to the n00ba anD spammers*)
I doubt thats even "politically" possibe... But the gesture is quite uplifting... Or maybe my whole world’s just fucked up by Alcohol, Guitar, and Black Sabbath.... Well, I sure hope not! Cuz they are my 3 Favz things! (apart from my gf, but she isnt classed as a "thing")
Jan 30, 2007 3:36 pm - that looks a bit like my guitar in my pics. but its not the same. 5*. btw do you know any reasons why the sound can get bad at times? ive fixed it before and was awesome. but now its bad again. 5* on profile if anyone answers my question
an 30, 2007 10:18 pm - Holy crap man, me and my friend just set that up the other day. Its good to see that there are other people out there in the world who think like me. 5*s on this and your profile because I’m feeling happy.
Feb 03, 2007 9:21 pm - the amplifiers are kind of hard to get... you could just plug the guitar directly into your computer... in the microphone plug, and go to SoundRecorder. And all you need for this is just plug adapters and a two way cord thing.
