Introduction
Despite what you may think, anybody can have dreadlocks: white, black, asian, et cetera.
Dreading your hair is pretty labor intensive and not so easily obtained as simply rubbing your hair back and forth between you palms as you might have heard.
Before you start thinking about making yourself some dreadlocks, you need to get the proper materials. The hardest to come by is dread wax and a dread comb; you might want to try asking for these at your local barber shop or check the products section of: http://www.dreadheadhq.com.
Materials
1. About 30-50 rubber bands
2. Dread comb (about five dollars max)
3. Dread wax (optional)
4. A friend and/or mirror
5. A good hour or two of free time
Procedure
Step One:
The first thing you need to do is separate your hair into square shaped sections using rubber bands to keep them apart from each other. The size of the squares will determine the size and thickness of your future dreads.
Step Two:
Starting as close as possible to your head, start combing towards it using the dread comb until it begins to bundle up while at the same time rubbing your fingers back and forth on the hair (as if you were playing a tiny violin).
Step Three:
Continue this process until you reach the end of the strand. Try to keep the dreads tight. Add a second and third rubber band to the strand: one at the roots of the strand and a second at the end of it.
Step Four:
Continue this process for every strand.
Step Five (optional):
Add the dread wax to each strand to help make them look much nicer.
Step Six:
After about a day or two, you can remove two of the three rubber bands (leave the ones that are around the root of each strand in). If you want to, you could actually leave these rubber bands in all the time to keep the in-growing hair tight.
